I love a good single coil RTA tank – so much so, that I spend a TON of money on them. So what are my picks for the best single coil RTA tanks right now?
Right now, the #1 best single coil RTA you can buy has to be the Hellvape MD. I’ve been using this tank, on and off, for months. It literally has not left my side. For flavor, for ease of use, and for zero leaks, the HellVape MD is more or less untouchable in this price bracket. For me, it is the best single coil RTA you can buy in 2020.
The Best Single Coil RTAs of 2019
2019 was a pretty good year for RTAs, single and dual, and while many of the tanks listed below are still great options, many are either sold out or no longer available.
For this reason, if you’re after a good RTA, you’re best off going with a newer option – like the HELLVAPE MD. If you want a dual-coil RTA for bigger clouds and sub-ohm vape, our current pick would be the Steamcrave Glaz; that thing is a beast of the most epic proportions.

Out of ALL the RTAs we’ve tested in the past 12 months, the above were the ones that impressed us the most.
What do we test for? Simple:
- Flavor & Clouds
- How Easy Is It To Wick?
- Is The Deck Good?
- Does It Leak?
- Value For Money
All of the single-coil RTAs listed below surpassed our expectations in all of the above criteria. For this reason, they now have pride of place inside our Best Single Coil RTA Guide.
#1) Vandy Vape Kylin Mini RTA – Legit Flavor Banger
The Vandy Vape Kylin Mini RTA is the smaller version of the Kylin RTA. It runs on a single coil and, for me, is one of the best single coil RTAs for flavor right now.
Installing coils and wicking is simple, leaks are rare, and I adore the airflow on this RTA.
The biggest USP of this RTA, however, is its flavor. It does BIG, intense, flavor and this, along with its gorgeous design make it easily one of the best single coil RTAs on the planet right now.
#2) DigiFlavor Pharoah Mini RTA – Simple, Reliable & Great Flavor
The DigiFlavor Pharoah Mini RTA is one of the easiest and simplest RTAs on this list. It looks great, vapes great, and it has an awesome deck.
I’m a huge fan of this RTA and regularly use it. The deck is sublime and the flavor you get from it is out of this world.
This RTA was designed by RIP Trippers, and the dude hit it out the park with this one!
It’s leak-proof, simple to work with, and it kicks out some of the densest flavor I have ever experienced.
A must-have tank for any RTA fan.
#3) Augvape Intake RTA – 100% Leak-Proof, Beautiful Design
The Augvape Intake RTA was marketed as completely 100% leak-proof. I used mine for several months, and these claims are very true. This RTA does not leak, and it doesn’t matter if your install skills aren’t that great.
The design, the finish, the deck, the flavor – everything is very much on point here. For this reason, I usually always recommend this tank to first time RTA users, as it is just so simple to set up.
Chuck in epic flavor, massive clouds, and a super-simple deck to work on and you have yourself one hell of a single coil RTA.
#4) GeekVape Zeus RTA
The ZEUS RTA by GeekVape doesn’t really need any introductions. It is a beast that is loved by many vapers all around the globe.
If you want a reliable, 100% leak-proof flavor banger than chucks out clouds like no other, the Zeus RTA more than lives up to its name.
I like this RTA so much because of how simple it is to live with; wicking is simple, building is simple. It all just fits together so well. And when you vape it…
You’re in a very good place, indeed. The flavor is dense, the airflow smooth. GeekVape hit it out the park with this one.
A near-perfect RTA that is ideal for all levels of vaper, from novice to seasoned pro.
Best Single Coil RTA Right Now?
And if I had to pick just one out of that list, I’d 100% go for the Vandy Vape Kylin Mini.
Why? Simple, really: it’s cheap and brilliant in almost every regard.
I prefer it to almost every other tank I have at the moment, including my RDAs.
The deck is simple to build on and the flavor you get from it is incredible.
I like all of the mentioned RTAs, but for me, the Kylin Mini RTA is the one I’d least like to part with.

Nothing else comes even remotely close in this regard.
Why Do I Like Single Coil RTA Tanks So Much?
Simple: they’re easier to work with, require less power, and they consume way less E Juice.
You also have some very cool MTL RTA tanks available right now, and that is freakin’ awesome because MTL vaping – or, should I say its resurgence to the mainstream – is easily one of the most exciting trends happening in the vape space right now.
Prior to 2017, MTL vaping in the rebuildable segment on the market was more or less limited to Kayfun tanks (and they’re pricey as hell).
Having more choice in this regard, for me, is a massive boon for vapers and the vaping space at large.
Single Coil RTA Tanks vs. Dual Coil RTA Tanks – What’s The Difference?
Pretty simple, really: one runs on a single coil, whereas the other runs on two (or three if you’re talking about the Vandy Vape Triple RTA.
With a dual-coil RTA, you’re able to vape at higher wattages and kick out more vapor.
With single coil RTA tanks, you’re running on just one coil, and this means you usually run them at lower wattages with slightly higher resistances on the coil.
MTL Vape Tanks
This is why a lot of single coil RTA tanks are geared towards MTL vaping.
But the best thing? You don’t lose any flavor.
Nope. You can still REALLY taste your juice, even at 20-30W.
And because of this, your mod’s batteries will last longer and you’ll use way less E Juice.
You can even do a little equation, to demonstrate this:
single coil + less power = more battery life & less E Juice consumed.
This is why I ALWAYS have a couple of single coil RTA tanks in rotation.
Single Coil RTA Tanks – Things To Keep In Mind
As always, when you’re talking about RTA tanks, single or otherwise, you need to keep in mind that they are way more fiddly to set up and live with than, say, an RDA or sub-ohm tank.
They’re getting A LOT better, 2017/18’s releases were very impressive, but they do require a keen eye and plenty of attention to detail because you have to be very accurate with your wicking so as to ensure the atomizer doesn’t flood or leak.
Both are bad, and you definitely don’t want this.
Single Coil RTA Tanks & Your Mod
As mentioned earlier, you can run single coil RTA tanks at much lower wattages. I don’t tend to ever get any higher than 70W on most of mine and this opens up plenty of new possibilities for mods.
Case in point: a DNA 75 mod is a lot cheaper than a DNA 250 mod.
Also: most squonker mods are single cell setups, so a lower powered tank is always beneficial in this regard.
And if you don’t need all that extra power, a DNA 75 mod like the Lost Vape Therion DNA 75 is kind of hard to beat when it comes to style, power, and functionality.
The brilliant JAC Vapour DNA 75 mod is also very respectably priced (and it is bloody great too).
I tend to stick to regulated mods when using single-coil RTAs. I just prefer the way they work together.
But when you only need a max of 75W, it does open quite a few doors in the premium mod market, where more power tends to mean more money.
If you’re a seasoned vaper, looking for something a little different, and you don’t have a single coil RTA in your collection, do yourself a favour and hook yourself up – they’re freakin’ awesome 🙂
