Do Any PuffCo Vapes Let You Vape Flower? Yes – But There’s A Catch…

Since its inception in 2014, PuffCo has been all-in on electric dab rigs (large and small) that make vaping rosin, concentrate and shatter simpler than traditional dab rigs that require, among other things, a torch (a flame, not a flashlight) and lots of manual input. Flower just ain’t its thing…

Which PuffCo Vape Supports Flower?

The only PuffCo vape that can run flower is the PuffCo Proxy but it doesn’t do it out of the box. You’ll need the Proxy Flower Bowl accessory which has to be bought separately and, to be frank, it isn’t very good either.

The Proxy Flower Bowl is basically just a bowl. It lacks almost all the finesse you get with a proper dry herb vaporizer and is closer to, well… a pipe than an actual vaporizer. It’s OK if you’re only a very light flower user, but I’d advise that you avoid it and stick to concentrates.

If you’re a flower-first kinda guy or gal, like myself, you’re going to be far better off with a dedicated dry herb vaporizer or, if you want something exclusively for home-use with more power, a desktop vaporizer.

I’ve been testing dry herb vapes for VapeBeat since 2015 and right now, my current go-to options (what I currently use for vaporizing flower) are as follows:

  • Storz & Bickel Mighty Plus: this is the absolute GOAT in my opinion; nothing else comes close for reliability, flavor, and battery performance).
  • AirVape Legacy Pro 2: Love this platform, and it’s now available for under $200 which makes it one of the best value dry herb portables on the market by an absolute mile.
  • Volcano Hybrid: The desktop vaporizer beloved by all who encounter it. I’ve had mine since it came out and it is one of my favorite things in the world. Great for parties, incredible performance, and pitch-perfect, voluminous vapor every time. It’s VERY expensive but you can save 40% on them by picking up a refurbished model.

Why Doesn’t PuffCo Make A Vape That Runs Flower?

PuffCo is a concentrate-first brand; that’s kind of its whole deal.

There are PuffCo alternatives that run flower, like the OG Dr Dabber Switch, but even now Dr Dabber is moving away from dual-use inside the newer Dr Dabber Switch 2 and Switch 2 Go (a smaller, more affordable version) which are now both concentrate-first platforms.

Since its inception in 2014, PuffCo has been all-in on electric dab rigs (large and small) that make vaping rosin, concentrate and shatter simpler than traditional dab rigs that require, among other things, a torch (a flame, not a flashlight) and lots of manual input.

And now, over a decade later it is one of the biggest and most well known brands on the market with a decent-sized array of products that range from desktop-grade setups (PuffCo Peak Pro 3DXL) to more compact and portable rigs (PuffCo Proxy; a modular, pipe-like design, and the PuffCo Pivot; an ultra-portable, pen-style dab pen).

So, yeah: I don’t think you’ll be seeing any flower-first devices from PuffCo anytime soon. It’s a bit like asking, “Why doesn’t Tesla make a gas-powered car?”

My advice? If you want to vape flower and concentrate, do yourself a favor and pick-up a refurbished Dr Dabber Switch, the OG model, it runs both flower and concentrates and it is still one of the best rigs you can buy.

I’ve bought plenty of refurbished vaporizers and dab rigs over the years. If you wanna know more about the ins and outs of doing this properly, meaning not getting burnt by some doink on Marketplace or Craig’s List, read my 101 on buying refurbished weed vapes and electric dab rigs.
