The Perfect XROS Setup For Most People
If you just want the easy answer, I’d start with the 0.8Ω pod, 50/50 nic salt, airflow half-open, and Normal or Smart mode.
That’s the best everyday setup for most people.
- It gives you a proper MTL draw, good flavour, decent battery life, and it doesn’t burn through e-liquid like the lower-resistance pods.
- If you want a warmer, looser vape, use the 0.6Ω pod.
- If you want more cloud and a more disposable-style hit, use the 0.4Ω pod on the XROS Pro, XROS Pro 2, XROS 5, XROS 6, or one of the newer compatible models.
But if you’re new to XROS vapes, don’t overthink it. Get the 0.8Ω pod first. That’s the safest starting point.
I’ve been using Vaporesso XROS vapes for pretty much as long as I can remember, and the reason is simple: their coils last longer than any other pod vape on the market, and with each new iteration of the device, they just keep getting better.
I currently use the Vaporesso XROS Pro 2; it’s been my daily driver for the past 14+ months. It has an excellent 2,000 mAh battery. The coils last 4 to 6 weeks between changes, and the flavour is off the charts. It’s basically about as close to perfection as a pod vape currently gets.
So, yeah, I’ve spent a stupid amount of time with XROS devices.
And the reason I keep coming back to them is simple: they just work. The pods last ages, the flavour is excellent, they’re easy to live with, and you don’t have to mess around with loose coils, tiny bits of rubber, or weird settings just to get a decent vape.
But there are a few things you can do to make your XROS vape even better, tips and little tricks I’ve picked up over the last several years of using them.
Here’s how to get more flavor, more battery life, and more performance from your Vaporesso XROS vape…
The Main Thing To Know About XROS Vapes

You’re not buying into one device where the pods disappear six months later. You’re buying into a whole system.
Most XROS pods work across most XROS devices, including the original XROS, XROS 2, XROS 3, XROS 4, XROS 5, XROS 6, XROS Pro, XROS Pro 2, and the Mini/Nano versions.
That means you can move from an older XROS to a newer one without changing the way you vape.
Same pods. Same liquid. Same basic setup.
The device changes, but the pod experience stays familiar which is great. COREX pods have always been great but they seem to get better with respect to flavor and longevity with each new iteration (we’re now on the third gen, by the way).
XROS Pro 2 or The XROS 6: What’s The Difference?

This is probably the main question now.
The original XROS Pro is old. Still good, but old. The XROS Pro 2 has replaced it as the premium model, and the XROS 6 is the current mainstream XROS device.
Here’s the short version:
| Model | Best For | Main Difference |
|---|---|---|
| XROS Pro 2 | People who want the most control | Bigger 2000mAh battery, screen, wattage control, lock switch, more premium feel |
| XROS 6 | Most everyday users | 1800mAh battery, fast charging, smoother airflow, easy setup |
| XROS 5 | Still a great modern XROS | Good screen, good battery, good all-rounder |
| XROS 5 Mini | Simple daily pod vape | No fuss, smaller body, still uses XROS pods |
| XROS Pro | Older premium model | Still good, but replaced by the Pro 2 |
| XROS 4 / 4 Nano | Older but still useful | Good if you already own one and like it |
The XROS Pro 2 is the one I use because I like having the bigger battery, screen, lock switch, and more control.
The XROS 6 is probably the better pick for most normal users because it gives you modern XROS performance in a simpler setup. Big battery, quick charging, excellent pods, less fiddling.
If you want the “best” one, I’d go XROS Pro 2.
If you want the easiest one to live with, I’d go XROS 6.
How To Set Up Any Vaporesso XROS Vape
Most XROS devices follow the same basic setup.
You fill the pod, let it prime, click it into the device, adjust the airflow, and vape.
Some models have screens. Some have no screen. Some have buttons. Some are auto-draw only. Some let you adjust wattage. Some handle the power automatically.
But the setup logic is the same.
Step 1: Pick The Right Pod
This matters more than the device itself.
A 0.8Ω pod in an XROS 6 will feel closer to a 0.8Ω pod in an XROS Pro 2 than most people expect.
The pod controls the draw, warmth, flavour, battery drain, and how much liquid you use.
Step 2: Fill The Pod

Most newer XROS pods use a top-fill design.
Pop the mouthpiece off, fill through the marked fill port, then push the mouthpiece back on.
Don’t overfill it.
Leave a tiny bit of air space. If you cram it full right to the top, you’re more likely to get flooding, gurgling, or liquid around the mouthpiece.
Step 3: Let The Pod Prime
This is the bit people skip.
Don’t.
Fill the pod, then leave it for at least 5 to 10 minutes before vaping. If you’re using a thicker liquid, give it longer.
Some newer devices, like the XROS 6, have a smart prime reminder. Handy feature. But the rule stays the same across every XROS vape: let the cotton soak before you hit it.
If you don’t, you’ll burn the coil before you’ve even started.
Step 4: Start Low And Work Up
If your XROS has adjustable wattage, don’t crank it straight away.
Start lower, take a few puffs, and work up until the flavour feels right.
More power does not always mean better flavour. Sometimes it just means hotter vapour, shorter pod life, and more liquid disappearing.
Step 5: Adjust The Airflow
Airflow changes everything.
Tighter airflow gives you a stronger MTL draw and more throat hit.
Looser airflow gives you a warmer, airier vape with more vapour.
Start half-open, then adjust from there.
The First Thing I Do With Every New XROS Pod
I never fill a new XROS pod and start vaping it straight away.
That’s how you ruin a pod before it’s even had a chance.
I fill it, put the cap back on, and leave it standing for at least 10 minutes. Then I take a few slow, gentle puffs.
Nothing heroic.
No massive lungfuls. No chain-vaping it like I’ve been stranded somewhere with one pod and a bottle of Blue Razz.
You need to let the cotton soak properly.
If you don’t, the coil heats dry cotton, the pod tastes burnt, and that flavour usually never goes away.
Once a pod is properly burnt, it’s done.
You can refill it, shake it, leave it overnight, apologise to it, whatever. It won’t come back properly.
Prime the pod.
Boring advice. Works every time.
Which XROS Pod Should You Use?

This is the bit that makes the biggest difference.
0.4Ω XROS Pod
The 0.4Ω pod is the warmest and cloudiest XROS pod.
Use this if you want a looser RDL-style vape, more vapour, and a warmer draw.
I wouldn’t use it with strong nic salts unless you want your throat kicked through the back of your head. It’s much better with lower nicotine and more airflow.
This pod works best on newer XROS devices that can handle the power properly, like the XROS Pro 2, XROS 6, XROS 5, XROS 4, and original XROS Pro.
It’s good fun, but it’s thirsty.
Expect more liquid use and shorter battery life.
0.6Ω XROS Pod
This is one of my favourite XROS pods.
It’s warmer and looser than the 0.8Ω pod, but not as thirsty as the 0.4Ω pod.
I like it when I want more flavour and a slightly airier MTL vape without going full RDL.
If you find the 0.8Ω pod too tight, use the 0.6Ω.
0.8Ω XROS Pod
This is the pod I’d recommend to most people.
It gives you the best mix of flavour, throat hit, battery life, and pod lifespan.
It works brilliantly with 50/50 nic salts, and it still feels like a proper mouth-to-lung vape.
If someone asked me which XROS pod to buy first, I’d say 0.8Ω without thinking about it too much.
1.0Ω XROS Pod
This is better if you like a tighter, cooler vape.
It uses less power, drinks less liquid, and works well with stronger nic salts.
If you’re coming from smoking and want something that feels closer to a cigarette draw, this makes sense.
1.2Ω XROS Pod
This is the tightest and coolest option; it’s also my least favorite because it is the ONLY COREX pod I’ve ever had any leaking issues with.
I also like more warmth and flavour, but it’s good for battery life, lower vapour output, and a very tight MTL draw. Still, I’d avoid this one like the plague: the 0.8 or 0.6ohm coil is 100% the sweet spot for flavor and longevity.
My XROS Pod Cheat Sheet
| Pod | Best For | Best Liquid | My Take |
|---|---|---|---|
| 0.4Ω | Warm RDL, bigger clouds | Lower nicotine, slightly thicker liquid | Best if you want the most powerful XROS vape |
| 0.6Ω | Loose MTL / RDL | 50/50 or slightly thicker liquid | My favourite for a warmer MTL vape |
| 0.8Ω | Everyday MTL | 50/50 nic salts | The best all-rounder |
| 1.0Ω | Tighter MTL | 50/50 nic salts | Good for battery life and stronger nic |
| 1.2Ω | Very tight MTL | 50/50 nic salts | Cool, tight, low-power vaping |
Use Nic Salts In Your XROS Vape
For most nic salts, I’d use either the 0.8Ω or 1.0Ω pod. That’s where the XROS range feels most natural.
You get a proper MTL draw, good flavour, solid throat hit, and decent pod life.
If you’re using 10mg or 20mg nic salts in the UK, the 0.8Ω pod is probably the best starting point.
- If you want it tighter and cooler, go 1.0Ω.
- If you want it warmer and looser, go 0.6Ω.
I’d avoid using strong nic salts in the 0.4Ω pod. It’s too warm and too powerful for that kind of liquid, at least for me.
Best XROS Setup For 0mg E-Liquid
If you’re using 0mg liquid, I’d go lower resistance.
- The 0.6Ω pod works well.
- The 0.4Ω pod works even better if you want more vapour and a warmer hit.
This is where the XROS Pro 2 makes sense. It gives you enough control to make 0mg liquid feel more satisfying without needing a big mod.
If I’m using 0mg, I want more warmth and airflow. Otherwise it can feel a bit thin.
Best E-Liquid For XROS Pods
For 0.6Ω, 0.8Ω, 1.0Ω and 1.2Ω pods, I stick with 50/50 liquid.
That’s the safe option.
It wicks properly, the flavour is good, and it doesn’t flood as easily as very thin liquid.
For the 0.4Ω pod, I prefer lower nicotine and slightly thicker liquid. You can run it warmer and airier, so strong nic salts can get too much very quickly.
Could you use high VG liquid in the 0.4Ω pod?
Yes. Would I recommend it as the main way to use an XROS? Not really.
For me, the XROS range works best with nic salts and MTL-style vaping. That’s where battery life, pod life, and flavour all line up properly.
Best Settings For XROS Pro 2

The XROS Pro 2 is the model I use now.
It has a bigger battery, a proper screen, a lock switch, and enough power control to make the 0.4Ω and 0.6Ω pods feel really good.
My preferred setups:
| Pod | How I’d Use It |
|---|---|
| 0.4Ω | Lower nicotine, more airflow, warmer vape |
| 0.6Ω | Loose MTL, airflow half-open, daily flavour setup |
| 0.8Ω | Balanced MTL, 50/50 nic salt, better battery life |
| 1.0Ω | Tight MTL, stronger nic salts |
| 1.2Ω | Very tight draw, maximum battery life |
The big advantage of the Pro 2 is control.
You can fine-tune the vape more than you can on the simpler XROS models. If you care about screen, puff tracking, lock switch, wattage, and battery size, this is the one to get.
But don’t overdo the power.
Even on the Pro 2, I still start lower and work up. Once the vape tastes good, I stop. I don’t keep increasing wattage just because the device lets me.
That’s how you burn pods and waste liquid.
Best Settings For XROS 6

The XROS 6 is probably the better choice for most users.
It has a big battery, fast charging, modern COREX pods, a screen, and smoother airflow, but it feels more like a straightforward daily pod vape than the Pro 2.
My preferred XROS 6 setup would be:
| Pod | Best Use |
|---|---|
| 0.6Ω | Warmer everyday vape, good flavour |
| 0.8Ω | Best all-round setup |
| 1.0Ω | Tighter MTL, better battery |
| 1.2Ω | Tightest draw, low vapour |
The XROS 6 ships well for normal use because the 0.6Ω and 0.8Ω pods are exactly the pods most people should be trying first.
That’s not an accident.
The 0.6Ω gives you warmth and flavour.
The 0.8Ω gives you balance.
If you bought an XROS 6 and don’t know where to start, try both pods and see which one feels better. If the 0.6Ω feels too airy or too warm, use the 0.8Ω. If the 0.8Ω feels too tight or too cool, use the 0.6Ω.
Simple.
XROS Pro 2 vs XROS 6: Which One Would I Buy?

If I was buying for myself, I’d get the XROS Pro 2.
That’s because I like the bigger battery, lock switch, screen, and more hands-on control. I also use XROS vapes all day, so the extra battery is useful.
If I was recommending one to a normal person who just wants a good refillable pod vape, I’d probably say XROS 6.
It’s easier. It’s modern. It charges quickly. It uses the same pod system. It gives you the best parts of the XROS range without making the device feel too “pro”.
So:
- Get the XROS Pro 2 if you want maximum battery and more control
- Get the XROS 6 if you want the easiest current XROS to live with
- Keep your XROS 5 or XROS 4 if it still works and you’re happy with it
- Upgrade from the original XROS Pro if battery life, newer pods, or newer airflow matter to you
Airflow: The Simple Trick That Changes Everything
Airflow makes a massive difference on XROS devices.
- If your vape feels too tight, open it up a little.
- If it feels too loose, close it down.
- If it’s gurgling, open the airflow slightly and take slower pulls.
- If the flavour feels weak, tighten the airflow a touch.
This is one of the easiest ways to fine-tune an XROS without changing pods, wattage, or liquid.
For MTL vaping, I usually keep the airflow half-open or slightly tighter.
For the 0.4Ω pod, I open it more because that pod needs more air to work properly.
How To Stop XROS Pods Leaking
XROS pods are generally good for leaks, but they’re not magic.
Most leaking comes from one of five things:
- You overfilled the pod
- You didn’t close the fill port properly
- You used liquid that’s too thin for the pod
- You left the device somewhere hot
- You’re pulling too hard
That last one is a big one.
A pod vape is not a milkshake. You don’t need to drag on it like you’re trying to collapse the coil into another dimension.
Slow, steady draws work better.
You get better flavour, fewer leaks, and less gurgling.
I also wipe the bottom of the pod whenever I refill it. Takes two seconds. Stops liquid building up around the contacts. Keeps the device cleaner.
If your XROS is gurgling, take the pod out, wrap it in tissue, and flick it gently downward a couple of times. Then wipe the base and the inside of the device.
Nine times out of ten, that fixes it.
Why Your XROS Tastes Burnt
If your XROS tastes burnt, it’s usually one of these things:
- You didn’t prime the pod properly
- You started vaping too soon after filling
- You let the liquid level get too low
- You’re chain-vaping too hard
- Your wattage is too high
- Your liquid is too thick for the pod
- The pod is finished
The easiest fix is prevention.
Keep the pod topped up. Let new pods sit after filling. Don’t start at max power. Don’t take five massive pulls in a row on a tiny pod and then act surprised when it tastes like burnt toast.
Once the burnt taste is properly in there, I replace the pod.
Life’s too short to vape through a ruined coil.
Why Your XROS Is Gurgling Or Spitting
Gurgling usually means the pod is flooded.
This can happen if your liquid is too thin, your airflow is too tight, or you’re pulling too hard. It can also happen if the pod has been sitting for a while and condensation has built up inside.
Here’s what I do:
- Take the pod out
- Wrap the bottom in tissue
- Flick it gently downward
- Wipe the contacts
- Open the airflow slightly
- Take slower draws
That normally sorts it.
If it keeps happening, I’d change the liquid or replace the pod.
How Long Do XROS Pods Last?

This depends on how you vape. If you chain-vape sweet liquid at higher power, don’t expect miracles.
But with the right setup, XROS pods can last ages. One of the reasons I use XROS devices is that the pods last me much longer than a lot of other pod systems I’ve tested.
I can often get 5 to 6 weeks from a pod if I’m using decent liquid, not abusing the wattage, and keeping it topped up.
That’s why I like them.
The pods aren’t free, obviously, but if you’re getting over a month from one pod, the running cost is low.
The trick is simple: don’t burn them early.
Prime them properly. Don’t run them dry. Don’t hammer them at silly wattage. Don’t use the wrong liquid.
Do that, and they last.
How To Make XROS Pods Last Longer
This is what I do:
- Prime every new pod properly
- Keep the liquid above the cotton line
- Don’t chain-vape hard
- Use the right liquid for the pod
- Don’t run high wattage just because you can
- Wipe the pod base when refilling
- Don’t leave the vape in direct sun
- Remove the pod when charging if you want to be extra careful
- Replace the pod when flavour drops off properly
The biggest pod killer is impatience.
People fill a fresh pod, take a huge pull 20 seconds later, burn the cotton, then blame the pod.
Don’t do that.
Should You Remove The Pod While Charging?
I usually do. Is it essential? No.
But charging creates heat, and heat is not great for e-liquid or cotton. If the pod is already half-used, I’d rather take it out while the device charges.
It takes two seconds.
Will it double pod life? No.
Can it help? I think so.
It’s one of those small habits that costs nothing and might save you a pod here and there.
Battery Life Tips For XROS Vapes
If you want better battery life, use higher-resistance pods.
Simple as that.
- A 1.0Ω or 1.2Ω pod will use less power than a 0.4Ω pod.
- The 0.8Ω pod is the best middle ground.
- The 0.6Ω pod gives you more warmth but uses a bit more battery.
- The 0.4Ω pod tastes great when set up properly, but it’s the worst option for battery life.
If I’m going out all day, I’m not running a 0.4Ω pod at high power and expecting miracles.
For battery life, MTL wins.
Every time.
How To Clean An XROS Vape
You don’t need to deep-clean it every day.
But you should keep the pod bay clean.
- Every few refills, I take the pod out and wipe the inside of the device with a cotton swab.
- Clean the contacts.
- Wipe the pod base.
- Get rid of condensation.
- That’s it.
If your XROS suddenly stops firing properly, or the draw feels odd, check the contacts before assuming the device is broken.
A tiny bit of liquid in the wrong place can cause weird behaviour.
When Should You Replace An XROS Pod?
Replace the pod when:
- The flavour drops off and doesn’t come back
- It tastes burnt
- The vapour feels weak
- The liquid inside the pod has gone very dark
- It keeps gurgling even after cleaning
- It leaks repeatedly
- The draw feels blocked
- You’ve refilled it loads of times and it just feels tired
I don’t replace pods on a fixed schedule.
I replace them when they stop tasting good.
Sometimes that’s two weeks. Sometimes it’s over a month. Sometimes longer.
It depends on the pod, the liquid, and how hard I’ve been using it.
Should You Upgrade Your Older XROS?
If your older XROS still works and you’re happy with it, you don’t need to rush out and replace it.
That’s one of the best things about this range.
Older XROS devices are still useful because they still run XROS pods.
But if you want better battery life, newer screens, faster charging, better airflow, and more control, the newer models are worth looking at.
- I’d look at the XROS Pro 2 if you want the best XROS device overall.
- I’d look at the XROS 6 if you want the best standard XROS for everyday use.
And if you already have an XROS 5, XROS 4, or XROS 4 Nano and it’s doing the job, I wouldn’t feel desperate to upgrade unless battery life is annoying you.
My Final XROS Rules
If you remember nothing else from this guide, follow these rules. They’ll help you choose the right pod, avoid burnt coils and get more life from every refill.
Start Here
The safest choice if you don’t know which XROS pod to buy. Use it with 50/50 nicotine salts for a normal MTL vape.
Warmer And Looser
Choose this if you want a warmer vape, more vapour and a slightly looser mouth-to-lung draw.
More Power And Airflow
Use this only if you want a stronger, airier vape and plan to use lower-strength nicotine.
Keep Your Pods Working Properly
- Prime every new pod properly.
- Don’t vape the pod completely dry.
- Don’t fill beyond the maximum line.
- Take steady draws instead of pulling hard.
- Start at a lower wattage and work upwards.
- Use the lock switch if your XROS has one.
- Wipe the contacts whenever you refill.
- Keep 50/50 liquid in normal MTL pods.
- Remove the pod while charging if you want to be extra careful.
- Replace the pod when the flavour stays burnt.
