When I first reviewed about the DaVinci IQ3, it had only just launched and while I always liked the brand, it was clear all was not well at its HQ. The brand was bought out by Greenlane, a company that to this day still owes my business money from unpaid fees, so I kind of figured that’d be it for them.
And it kind of was; the DaVinci brand all but disappeared from conversations online. It was sad too because the IQ3 and the IQ2 before it were fantastic vaporizers. Fast-forward to 2026 and DaVinci is now BACK, away from Greenlane, and being run once again by its original founders.

The IQ3 Came Out In 2024 But It Still Holds Up In 2026 – Here’s Why…
At the time, the obvious angle was to run through all the upgrades: the bigger oven, larger battery, improved airflow, Cool Core, USB-C charging and updated app support.
I’ve now used the IQ3 properly, meaning 18+ months, and I can now appreciate fully why some of those features matter far more than others.
The three things that stand out for me, especially when compared to using it alongside my other weed vapes, are as follows:
- The flavour is excellent
- You can control everything important without opening an app
- The removable battery completely changes what it’s like to own
That final point is massive.
Most portable vaporizers use sealed internal batteries which means once the battery runs out, your session is over until you find a socket and wait for the device to recharge, usually 60+ minutes.
Having A Removable Battery On A Portable Dry Herb Vaporizer Is Brilliant
The IQ3 uses a removable 21700 battery which means, providing you keep a spare battery charged at all times, as I like to do, you can swap batteries and be up and running again in seconds.
The removable battery also means the IQ3 itself isn’t effectively disposable.
In theory, the device could keep going for years. Other components may eventually fail, of course, but battery degradation doesn’t automatically kill the entire vaporizer.
That’s the problem with devices like the PAX Plus, PAX Flow and Mighty+. They all use sealed internal batteries. Those batteries will eventually lose capacity and die, and when that happens, you can’t simply replace the cell. In most cases, you’re looking at replacing the complete device.
With the IQ3, you remove the old battery, insert a new one and carry on using it. For a premium vaporizer that costs this much, that’s exactly how it should work.
Why don’t more portable vaporizers work like this?
The DaVinci IQ3 is the best dry-herb vaporizer DaVinci currently makes.
It produces smooth, flavourful vapour, gives you proper temperature control directly on the device and runs on a removable 21700 battery.
You can connect it to DaVinci’s app if you want session tracking, custom Smart Paths and more detailed controls. But you don’t need the app to use the vaporizer properly.

1. The Flavour Is Excellent
This is the main reason to buy the IQ3.
Specifications are nice, but the whole point of a dry-herb vaporizer is the vapour coming out of it. If the flavour is flat, hot or vaguely burnt, none of the clever stuff matters.
The IQ3 produces clean, full and properly defined flavour, especially during the first part of a lower-temperature session.
You can actually taste the differences between strains instead of getting one generic roasted-herb flavour from everything you load into it.
The zirconia and glass vapour path plays a big part here. Vapour isn’t travelling through a long plastic tube before it reaches your mouth.
The IQ3 is a conduction vaporizer, so it behaves differently from a VENTY, Mighty+ or other hybrid system. It works best as a slower session vape.
Load the oven, allow it to reach temperature and take long, controlled draws. It isn’t designed to smash through an entire bowl in two lung-busting hits.
If you want instant extraction and enormous clouds, there are harder-hitting options. My pick right now would be the Utillian 850; it’s a cloud-chucking monster.
If you care about flavour, comfort and taking your time, the IQ3 is bloody good.
2. You Don’t Need the App
This is one of my favourite things about the IQ3.
Yes, it has Bluetooth. Yes, there’s an app. And yes, the app provides more controls.
But the IQ3 doesn’t become a useless aluminium brick when your phone isn’t around.
You can control the important settings directly on the device, including:
- Precise temperature
- Smart Path selection
- Boost Mode
- Stealth Mode
- Vibration
- Temperature units
- On-device dosage settings
The LED grid takes a little time to understand, but once you know what the symbols mean, you can run the entire session without touching your phone.
This is how a smart vaporizer should work.
The app should add things. It shouldn’t be a compulsory remote control for hardware you already paid $299 for.
That’s one reason I prefer the IQ3’s approach to more app-led portable vaporizers. PAX devices have on-device modes, but the IQ3 gives you much more granular temperature control directly from its buttons.
I can take the IQ3 outside, leave my phone on the desk and still use it exactly how I want.
That sounds basic. In 2026, it apparently isn’t.
3. The App Is There if You Want It
Although you don’t need the app, it’s still useful.
DaVinci’s current system runs through the DaVinci Connect browser on iPhone and Android. Desktop users can access the web app through Chrome without installing anything.
The app gives you access to:
- Precise temperature control
- Custom Smart Paths
- A real-time temperature graph
- Dosage tracking
- Session history
- Session ratings
- Stealth and vibration controls
- Firmware updates
You can create a temperature path that changes throughout the session, save it and use it again later.
You can also enter the potency and amount loaded to receive an estimated dose per draw or session. I’d treat that as a tracking aid rather than a medical-grade measurement, but it’s there if you find that kind of data useful.
DaVinci says the app works across phones, tablets and desktop computers, although connection quality can vary between devices. Craft Your IQ Vaporizer Experience
Personally, I rarely want an app involved in a vaping session.
I like that the IQ3 gives me the option without making it a requirement.
4. The Removable Battery Is Brilliant
This is the IQ3’s biggest practical advantage over most premium portable vaporizers.
It uses a removable 4000mAh 21700 battery.
That gives you two ways to charge:
- Charge the battery inside the IQ3 using USB-C
- Remove the battery and charge it using an external charger
More importantly, you can own more than one battery.
If the battery runs out, you don’t have to stop using the vaporizer. Remove the empty cell, insert a charged one and continue.
The swap takes seconds.
Compare that with a vaporizer running a sealed battery. When that device dies, you have to connect it to a charger and wait. There is no workaround.
The IQ3 takes approximately three hours to charge internally, according to DaVinci, so the removable cell isn’t merely a nice bonus. It solves what would otherwise be a pretty long wait.
There’s also a longer-term benefit.
Rechargeable batteries lose capacity as they age. In a sealed device, battery degradation eventually affects the useful life of the complete vaporizer.
With the IQ3, you replace the battery.
That makes far more sense on a $299 device designed to last for years.
A word of caution: use the battery specified or approved for the IQ3, keep loose cells in a proper battery case and never carry an exposed battery in a pocket with keys or coins.
5. Battery Life Is Strong
DaVinci rates the IQ3 for up to 90 minutes of use.
Actual runtime depends on your temperature, session length, Bluetooth use and how frequently you allow the device to cool between sessions.
Higher temperatures drain the battery faster. So does leaving Bluetooth connected when you aren’t using the app.
Even without hitting the full advertised figure every time, battery life is strong enough that most people won’t need to swap cells constantly.
But that isn’t really the point.
The best thing about the battery isn’t that it lasts longer than the old IQ2 battery. It’s that battery life stops being a hard limit.
If you’re going away for the weekend, take two charged cells. If you’re a heavy user, keep one in an external charger while the other is inside the IQ3.
You can effectively stay unplugged for as long as you have charged batteries available.
6. The Cool Core Makes a Real Difference
The Cool Core isn’t just a silly marketing name.
It is a removable zirconia component that lengthens the vapour path and pulls heat away from the vapour before it reaches your mouth.
DaVinci claims it can make the vapour around 50% cooler than older models. I can’t independently confirm an exact percentage, but the difference is noticeable.
The IQ3 remains comfortable at temperatures where older compact conduction vaporizers can start feeling hot and scratchy.
That matters because the IQ3 has a large oven and is designed for longer sessions. Without effective cooling, the body and mouthpiece could become unpleasant after several minutes.
The Cool Core helps keep the vapour smooth while preserving the flavour.
You can also remove it for cleaning, which is important because condensed vapour gradually leaves residue inside the path.
7. The Airflow Is Much Better
The IQ3 uses an adjustable Air Dial at the bottom of the device.
DaVinci says the new system increases air velocity by 70% compared with the IQ2. Again, I’m not going to pretend I’ve measured airflow in a laboratory, but the IQ3 does feel less restricted than older IQ models.
You can adjust the draw from tighter and more concentrated to looser and more open.
The effect depends on how you pack the oven.
A densely packed 0.7g load will naturally create more resistance. With a lighter or more carefully packed load, the Air Dial has more room to change the draw.
This is still a conduction session vape. Don’t expect VENTY levels of airflow.
But it’s a clear improvement over the IQ2, and it gives you enough control to find a comfortable draw.
8. The 0.7g Oven Is Huge
The IQ3’s oven holds up to 0.7g of dry herb.
That is enormous for a portable vaporizer.
It makes sense for:
- Long sessions
- Heavy users
- Sharing with other people
- Anyone who hates reloading
- People who want to run the device through several temperature stages
It makes less sense if you only use tiny amounts.
A conduction oven normally performs best when the material makes good contact with the heated chamber walls. If you load a small amount into an enormous oven, extraction can become less consistent.
DaVinci gives you two ways around this.
First, there’s an adjustable zirconia pearl in the oven lid. It reduces the usable chamber space and presses the herb towards the hot surfaces.
Second, the IQ3 includes a 0.2g stainless-steel dosing capsule.
I’d use the main oven for longer sessions and the dosing capsule for smaller, quicker loads. The capsule also makes loading and cleaning easier.
9. Temperature Control Is Properly Granular
The IQ3 lets you adjust its temperature in one-degree increments up to 430°F.
You can use it in two main ways.
Precision Mode
Choose an exact temperature and the IQ3 holds it for the session.
This is the best mode when you already know what works for you.
Lower temperatures generally preserve more flavour and produce lighter vapour. Higher temperatures create denser vapour and more complete extraction, but the flavour becomes increasingly roasted as the session progresses.
Smart Paths
Smart Paths gradually increase the temperature during the session.
The IQ3 includes four preset paths. You can also create custom paths using the app.
This works well if you want to begin with a flavour-focused temperature and finish hotter without repeatedly adjusting the controls yourself.
The old version of this article went far too deep into claims about targeting individual cannabinoids with specific temperatures.
I wouldn’t frame it that way now.
Cannabis chemistry, device accuracy, airflow, moisture and extraction are more complicated than “set this number for CBD and that number for THC.”
Use the temperature controls to manage flavour, vapour density, comfort and how thoroughly you want to extract the bowl.
10. Heat-Up Time Is Fast Enough
The IQ3 reaches temperature in around 30 seconds.
That’s much faster than the IQ2, but it isn’t trying to be an instant on-demand vaporizer.
Thirty seconds is short enough that it never feels like a serious wait. Turn it on, check your settings, and it’s generally ready by the time you’ve settled down.
I’ve used faster devices, but speed isn’t what makes the IQ3 good.
It’s built for a longer, controlled session rather than taking one huge hit and putting it away.
11. The Build Quality Is Superb
DaVinci has always been good at making vaporizers that feel like they could survive being run over by a small car.
The IQ3 continues that tradition.
The aluminium body feels dense and beautifully put together. The doors close properly, the buttons feel solid and the removable zirconia components fit securely.
It weighs around 8.4oz, so it isn’t particularly light. You’ll notice it in a pocket.
But the weight also contributes to the feeling that this is a proper premium device rather than a hollow plastic gadget.
The airtight zirconia and glass vapour path keeps vapour isolated from the electronics and battery area. That helps maintain the clean flavour for which DaVinci is known.
12. The Ten-Year Warranty Matters
The IQ3 comes with a ten-year warranty covering the device against defects in materials and workmanship under normal use.
Accessories and batteries aren’t covered in the same way, and you’ll need proof of purchase, but ten years is still an unusually long hardware warranty.
It fits with the removable-battery design.
Instead of treating the entire vaporizer as disposable once its battery begins to deteriorate, DaVinci has built something intended to remain usable.
What Is the IQ3 Like to Clean?
Most of the vapour-path components are removable.
You can take out and clean the:
- Mouthpiece
- Cool Core
- Flavour chamber
- Flavour-chamber cap
- Water-tool adapter
- Dosing capsule
DaVinci recommends using at least 70% isopropyl alcohol on parts that encounter vapour. Removable ceramic components can be soaked, while silicone parts should only be wiped or cleaned briefly.
The awkward part is the area underneath and around the oven.
Herb and residue can collect there, and reaching every corner takes more effort than cleaning a simple removable chamber.
Brush out the oven after each use while the residue is still loose. That prevents the material from building up and becoming a much bigger job later.
The dosing capsule also helps. It keeps much of the plant material contained and reduces the amount that ends up around the oven.
What I’d Change
The IQ3 is excellent, but it isn’t perfect.
It’s Heavy
The larger battery and huge oven add weight. This is portable, but it isn’t the sort of device you forget is in your pocket. Personally, I don’t mind this. I’d rather have a meaty, premium-feeling device made from high-end materials than something flimsy and plastic. I wouldn’t consider this a con, per se, as its build quality makes it extremely robust too.
The Oven Is Excessive for Light Users
A 0.7g oven is brilliant for long sessions and sharing. For me, one packed oven is enough to see me through a pleasant Friday evening. I fill it up, crack open a bottle of red, put a film on, and sip away on both throughout.
If you normally use 0.1g at a time, try one of the dosing capsules or the adjustable pearl rather than trying to run a tiny layer across the bottom because that approach simply doesn’t work very well.
Internal Charging Is Slow
USB-C is convenient, but an approximately three-hour internal charge is not fast. This is precisely why the removable battery matters so much. Buy a spare cell and a suitable external charger. They’re inexpensive and each battery will last your years at a time. I like to have a couple fully charged at all times. And when dies, I swap out the dead one for a fresh one and pop the dead cell in the charger.
The App Can Be Temperamental
Bluetooth vaporizer apps aren’t always reliable, especially when browsers, mobile permissions and operating-system changes get involved.
Fortunately, you don’t need it for normal use. I tested the app out when I first got the IQ3 because I needed to know what it was like and how it functioned. But I don’t use it anymore. I’m more of an analog guy when it comes to my vaporizers. It works perfectly fine if you like that kind of thing but if you don’t, like me, rest assured it works great without too.
Cleaning Around the Oven Is Fiddly
The removable vapour-path parts are easy enough to clean. The section beneath the oven is the annoying bit.
Regular brushing keeps it manageable, so make sure you stay on top of your cleaning game. I like to clean mine properly after every 3-4 sessions. It only takes 20 mins to do a full clean and doing it regularly will keep the IQ3 functional for years to come.
It’s Expensive
At $299, the IQ3 competes with some very capable portable vaporizers.
You’re paying for the materials, removable battery, large oven, cooling system, temperature control and long warranty.
If you don’t need those things, the DaVinci IQ Core may make more sense.
DaVinci IQ3 vs PAX: Which Would I Buy?
I’d buy the IQ3. Now, I do like Pax vaporizers, particularly the Pax 4 and the Pax Flow, but what I don’t like about Pax is:
- It makes you use a proprietary charger, which I hate.
- It doesn’t have a removable battery like the DaVinci IQ3.
- I don’t feel like the performance and vapour quality are as good as you get on the DaVinci IQ3.
Also, it doesn’t have adjustable airflow, which isn’t a deal breaker, but it does make a difference. I like having the AFC because sometimes you just wanna get that big ol’ swooshy inhale with loads of vapor.
PAX devices are slimmer and lighter, so if maximum discretion and pocketability are your priorities, yeah, give them a look. Me? I prefer the IQ3.
And the reason is simple. It gives me more of what I want:
- Better on-device temperature control
- A removable battery
- USB-C charging
- A much larger oven
- Adjustable airflow
- A cooled zirconia and glass vapour path
- Optional app controls rather than app dependence
The removable battery would probably decide it on its own.
A premium vaporizer should not become useless for several hours because its internal battery has gone flat. Nor should the entire device become electronic waste simply because the original battery has degraded after years of use.
The IQ3’s battery system is simply better.
DaVinci IQ3 vs VENTY and Mighty+
The Storz & Bickel VENTY and Mighty+ are harder-hitting hybrid vaporizers.
They heat the herb using a mixture of conduction and hot airflow, producing faster extraction and larger clouds with less dependence on a tight oven pack.
If your priority is raw performance and fast extraction, the VENTY is difficult to beat but you are married to the app for maximum performance on that device, and there are also plenty of QC issues that plagued it to begin with, although these have now been mostly ironed out.
I would say that if you are looking at a portable vaporizer from S&B, the Mighty Plus, for me, is still the absolute benchmark for dry herb vaporizers, although it is slightly more expensive than the Davinci IQ.
The IQ3 has different strengths:
- Cleaner, more deliberate flavour sessions
- Smaller and more discreet body
- Removable battery
- Larger oven than many portable competitors
- Excellent material quality
- Precise on-device control
I’d choose a VENTY for airflow and power.
I’d choose the IQ3 for flavour, battery flexibility and a more compact session vape.
Should You Buy the DaVinci IQ3?
I’ve owned the DaVinci IQ3 for over 16 months now, and in that time I’ve used it extensively to the point where I’ve got scuffs on mine. It’s been around the block. I’ve taken it on holiday with me. It’s earned itself a permanent slot in my main vaporizer rotation.
My current go-to portable weed vapes that I currently own and use are as follows:
- the Mighty Plus
- The VEAZY from Storz & Bickel
- the Pax Flow
- the Pax 4
- the Crafty Plus 2
I can use all of these vaporizers interchangeably, but the DaVinci IQ is the one I always come back to.
The removable battery is a big reason why. If I’m going away, I can carry a fully charged spare and swap it in when the first one runs out. I’m not reliant on finding a plug and waiting hours for the device to recharge.
The flavour is excellent, the controls are simple, and there’s no unnecessary messing about. I set the temperature I like, turn it on and start vaping. That’s it. No app. No nonsense.
It’s also easy to fill, straightforward to clean and built incredibly well. Taken together, that makes the IQ a genuinely brilliant piece of kit and one of the most practical portable vaporizers I’ve used.
Its strongest features aren’t the app or dosage estimates.
They’re the things that affect every session:
- The flavour is excellent
- The Cool Core keeps the vapour comfortable
- The controls work without your phone
- The oven holds a huge amount
- The battery lasts well
- The battery can be replaced in seconds
That removable 21700 cell remains the killer feature for me.
