The original Dr. Dabber Ghost arrived way back in 2013, when wax pens were still fairly crude things. Most were little more than a battery connected to a basic exposed coil and if you never used those 510 monstrosities, well, you can count yourself lucky.
But the new Dr. Dabber Ghost 2 is a completely different animal and it is here to drink the crowd-pleasing PuffCo Pivot’s milkshake. And you know what? I think Dr Dabber has done it again too; I prefer the way it looks, it’s more powerful, and the design is way more easy to live with.
Now, we already have a smaller Dr Dabber Switch 2 alternative in the form of the Dr Dabber Switch Go, but the Ghost 2 is orders of magnitude smaller than that device: it’s a proper portable in every way.
It takes some of the clever heating tech used inside the much larger Dr. Dabber Switch 2 and squeezes it into a genuinely pocket-sized concentrate vaporizer.
You get five temperature settings, three different heating profiles, a ceramic chamber, an isolated ceramic vapour path and USB-C charging.
It costs around $119 in the US, which puts it directly against the Puffco Pivot and at that price I can see these flying off the shelves.
It isn’t a replacement for a proper water-filtered e-rig. It isn’t meant to be. This is for smaller, flavour-heavy dabs when you don’t want to carry an entire glass setup around with you.

What Comes in the Box?
The Ghost 2 package is fairly basic:

The chamber is deep and narrow. That design works brilliantly once the concentrate is inside, but getting sticky material cleanly into the bottom of it can be annoying with a normal metal dab tool.
Design and Build Quality
The first clever decision Dr. Dabber made was to avoid the usual long, thin vape-pen shape like PuffCo did with the PuffCo Pivot.
The Ghost 2 is short and fairly wide, squat is the word I’m thinking, with the battery sitting beside the chamber rather than underneath it. It measures only 3.5 inches tall, so it sits comfortably in your hand and can stand upright on a table without constantly threatening to fall over.
That last point sounds minor until you’ve used a round dab pen that rolls off the table while it is still warm.
The hinged top flips open to reveal the chamber. This makes the Ghost 2 feel more like a miniature e-rig than a traditional wax pen, while also keeping the chamber protected inside the body.
The large mouthpiece contains ceramic parts held within a silicone housing. The silicone supports the assembly, but it does not sit directly in the vapour route. Vapor moves from the ceramic chamber through an isolated ceramic path before reaching the user which is good news for flavor and heat dissipation.
Also: silicone-heavy vapour paths can slightly flatten the taste of a good concentrate, especially at lower temperatures, so, once again, the good doctor has thought of everything.
You control the device through one tactile button. There’s no screen and, mercifully, no app either. You have to use different click combinations to handle the temperature, heating mode, battery check and session activation.
It takes a few minutes to learn, but once you’ve got the main combos locked in it quickly becomes second-nature.

Loading the Ghost 2
Loading is the one part of the design that could be better. Or, more specifically, I think Dr Dabber was going for a certain look and feel and had to basically keep the loading chamber as-is in order to pull it off.
The chamber itself is deep, but the opening is proper narrow. Crumbly concentrates aren’t too much of a problem to drop in, but sticky extracts can cling to the loading tool or smear around the upper edge which isn’t ideal.
A hot knife solves most of this, of course, but that’s an added extra in the cost department if you don’t already own one. If like me, you do own one, place a small amount over the chamber, activate the knife and let the concentrate fall into the bottom without scraping the ceramic.
And pro-tip: resist the temptation to cram the chamber full.
I’ve tried loads of different-sized loads and smaller loads definitely perform better. It also makes for quicker and simpler clean up too. With larger loads, you tend to need a second or third cycle, and by that point the flavour has fallen off and residue has started collecting around the chamber.
It works best with a small rice-grain-sized load, so make that you’re starting point.
Vapour Quality
Flavor is the Ghost 2’s main event.
The combination of a glazed ceramic chamber and ceramic vapour path keeps the draw clean. There is no exposed coil cooking one part of the load while leaving another section untouched.
At the lower temperature settings, vapor is smooth, light and very terpene-forward which I prefer. Move into the middle settings and you get the best overall mix of flavour, warmth and density.
The highest settings can produce much thicker vapour, but the draw becomes hotter and some of the finer flavour starts disappearing. Now, that’s true of almost every portable concentrate vape on the market, of course, because as we all know: you cannot throw 540°F at a load and expect it to taste like a gentle low-temperature dab.
For most people, the second or third heat level will be the sweet spot.
The large ceramic mouthpiece also does a surprisingly good job of cooling the vapour considering there is no water filtration. It will not match an e-rig with a proper bubbler, but it is noticeably smoother than the average compact wax pen.
How the 360-Degree Chamber Works
The Ghost 2 uses radial sidewall heating.
Instead of concentrating all the heat underneath the load, the chamber warms the concentrate around its sides. Angled airflow then helps move the melted material towards the heated walls.
This gives you more even extraction without needing to drop a terp pearl into the chamber.
It also helps explain why small loads work so well. Once the concentrate melts, it spreads across a large heated surface rather than sitting as one thick pool at the bottom.
The result is quick vapour production and fewer obvious cold patches.
It is still possible to leave residue behind if you overload the chamber or draw too aggressively, but the heating system is much more controlled than a cheap coil-based concentrate pen.
Dynamic Heating Modes Explained
The Ghost 2 has five temperature levels, but the three Dynamic Heating Modes are what make it interesting.
Most portable dab vapes heat to one temperature and attempt to hold it there. The Ghost 2 can alter the temperature through the session.
Steady Mode
Steady is the normal setting.
The device reaches your chosen temperature and attempts to maintain it through the session. It is predictable, easy to understand and a good place to start if you are new to concentrates.
Use this when you want the same type of hit each time without thinking too much about heat curves.
Ascent Mode
Ascent starts at the chosen temperature and gradually becomes hotter.
The beginning of the draw is lighter and more flavour-led. Vapour density then builds as the session continues.
This is a good option if you want to get plenty of vapour from a small load, although it can leave more residue baked onto the chamber if you repeatedly run high-temperature cycles.
Descent Mode
Descent starts hotter and then gradually reduces the temperature.
This is designed to feel more like using a traditional nail, which begins hot and naturally cools while you inhale.
The stronger initial heat gets the concentrate moving quickly, while the falling temperature prevents the end of the session from becoming unnecessarily harsh.
Descent is arguably the Ghost 2’s best mode. It delivers satisfying initial vapour without continuing to roast the load once most of the useful material has gone.
Controls and Daily Use
Despite everything happening inside it, the Ghost 2 is easy to operate.
The main controls work as follows:
- Hold the button to switch the device on or off
- Click once to move through the temperature settings
- Click twice to begin a heating cycle
- Click three times to change the heating mode
- Click four times to check the battery level
The exact temperature and mode are communicated through coloured lights.
A display would make the settings clearer, but it would also make the device larger and more expensive. Once you have memorised the colours you use most, the lack of a screen stops being an issue.
There is also no companion app.
I see that as a positive. Taking out your phone simply to change the temperature on a vaporizer has always felt like technology searching for a problem.
The Ghost 2 keeps all its controls on the device where they belong.
Heat-Up Time and Session Performance
Dr. Dabber claims a heat-up time of around five to ten seconds, depending on the chosen setting. As usual, that’s not exactly the case in practice. My experience puts it closer to 15 or 20 seconds, particularly once the battery level has dropped.
That is still quick enough for a portable concentrate device, but the official claim appears to represent ideal conditions rather than what you will get during every session. It also doesn’t take into account battery degradation over time.
Each cycle lasts around 30 seconds.
That is enough time to clear a small load with a controlled, steady draw. Pulling too hard can overwhelm the heater and reduce vapour density, so the Ghost 2 works best with a slower inhale because, like any device of this size, it’s made for deliberate micro-dabs, not enormous lung-busting hits.
Battery Life
Dr. Dabber rates the battery for up to 20 heating cycles.
In my experience (I’ve been using it for just over a month), around 15 cycles is a more sensible expectation. Higher temperatures, repeated cycles and an ageing battery will reduce that figure.
Whether 15 sessions is enough depends on how you load it. If each small load is finished in one cycle, the Ghost 2 should comfortably last through a normal day. If you use three cycles per load, it will need charging much sooner.
A full charge takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes over USB-C which isn’t too bad. I’ve been using mine a lot and I haven’t once run into any battery issues. I tend to use it for a few hours, then just stick it on charge until I need it again.
Pass-through charging is included, and I LOVE that it is, so the device can still be used while connected to power. That is particularly useful at home and makes the modest battery less of a problem.
The battery is not removable, however, so once it eventually loses capacity and dies (which it will) you cannot swap in a fresh cell which, annoyingly, makes it yet another disposable product like Apple’s AirPods and its most other modern tech.
Cleaning and Maintenance
The Ghost 2 is fairly easy to maintain but only if you clean it regularly which means staying on top of it. The moment you let gunk build up inside it, you’re in a world of pain.
The hinged lid opens the chamber for quick access, while the mouthpiece assembly can be removed and taken apart. The ceramic parts are smooth enough to wipe down without too much effort.
The best routine is simple:
- Allow the chamber to cool until it is warm rather than piping hot.
- Use a dry cotton swab to collect any remaining concentrate.
- Clean stubborn residue with a small amount of isopropyl alcohol.
- Remove and clean the mouthpiece parts periodically.
- Allow every component to dry fully before reassembly.
Do this after every few loads and the Ghost 2 remains fairly painless to own.
Leave residue inside for weeks, repeatedly bake it at the highest temperature and the chamber will eventually become much harder to clean.
The narrow chamber also makes the lowest area slightly awkward to reach. Long pointed swabs work better than thick standard cotton buds.

The Pivot has the easier chamber to load and can deliver a harder initial hit.
The Ghost 2 gives you more control over how the heat behaves and has the cleaner ceramic vapour route. It also stands more securely on a table and tends to create less mess around the mouthpiece.
My pick would be the Ghost 2 for flavour and small controlled sessions. I also much prefer the design of the Ghost 2, how it feels in the hand, the controls. It’s just a way easier device to live with and use on the go.
Go with the Pivot if your main priority is a punchier hit and you do not care about adjustable heating profiles.

The Dr. Dabber Ghost 2 gets the important things right: it’s small, well designed, it feels robust which makes it ideal for travel, and it delivers the kind of flavor you’d never expect from a rig this size.
The three heating modes are not pointless padding for the specification sheet, either. They noticeably change the way each session develops, particularly the Descent profile, which produces a strong start without roasting the concentrate at the end.
The ceramic vapour route keeps flavour clean, the mouthpiece cools better than expected and the short body feels much more practical than a traditional pen.
The narrow chamber is the one obvious annoyance. You will probably want a hot knife if you’re not too delicate with your hands. But for cons, that’s about it. Add in its price tag, and I think you’re looking at one of the best value portable e-rigs on the market right now.
