My pick: the Ghost 2. The Pivot hits harder, but the Ghost 2 is cleaner, more controlled and much easier to live with.
The Puffco Pivot has been the obvious portable dab vape to buy for a while. It is small, powerful and built around Puffco’s excellent 3D Chamber.
Then Dr. Dabber released the Ghost 2.
And after using both, I prefer the Ghost 2.
That does not mean the Pivot is suddenly rubbish. It isn’t. The Pivot heats harder, has a wider chamber and produces a punchier hit with less messing around. If clouds and immediate impact are your priorities, it still makes a very strong case for itself. But it is more expensive ($150 vs $120 for the Ghost 2).
But the Dr. Dabber Ghost 2 tastes cleaner, feels better in the hand, stands upright without falling over and gives you far more control over how the heat develops during a session.
For me, the Ghost 2 is now the better portable concentrate vape for most people.

The headline differences are simple.

Design: Squat Little Rig Or Traditional Dab Pen?
This is the first big difference.
The Pivot looks like a traditional vape pen. It is long, narrow and extremely easy to slip into a pocket. If you want something discreet that disappears into a small bag or jacket, its shape works brilliantly.
The problem is that it also behaves like a pen.
Place it on its side and it can roll. Stand it upright and it is easier to knock over. Mine has never felt particularly settled on a table, especially compared with the Ghost 2.
The Ghost 2 is short, wide and squat. Its battery sits beside the chamber rather than underneath it, giving it a lower centre of gravity and a much more stable base.

The Pivot also has Boost Mode. Double-click during a session and it extends the cycle while raising the temperature.
That is great when you want more from the load, but it comes with the obvious trade-offs: more heat, faster battery drain and a greater chance of baking residue onto the chamber.
The Ghost 2 can produce plenty of vapour, especially on its higher settings, but it does not attack the load in quite the same way.

Puffco rates the Pivot for up to 15 cycles on Blue, its lowest heat setting. Boost counts as another heat cycle and reduces the total.
Real-world Pivot reports vary quite a bit. Some owners get roughly the advertised figure, while others report closer to six, eight or ten sessions when using higher settings.
That tracks with the way the device works. The Pivot runs hotter and Boost asks even more from the battery.
The Ghost 2 has been more predictable for me. I use it for a few hours, put it back on charge and have never had it die at an awkward moment.
