Texas has banned all Chinese-made disposable vapes which is basically 99.9% of them. That means disposables vapes are off the menu for good.
Now, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing because disposables cost more to run in the short, medium and long term, they’re terrible for the environment, and they’re super-limiting when it comes to flavor.
Does anyone like doing 70K puffs of the same ultra-sweet flavor?
Me? I’m all about refillable pod vapes. Always have been. They’re what I use 100% of the time because I can use whatever vape juice I like and they cost way to less to run over the course of year.
If you’re coming off disposables, live in Texas, and need a superior alternative that’ll cost you less to run, deliver better performance, and allow you to run whatever nic salt juice you like, here’s what I’d be buying right now…

The Pod Vape I’d Choose Right Now?

I test a lot of gear every year. From mods to pods to prefilled pods and even dry herb vaporizers.
But for the vast majority of this year, it’s mostly been disposables (which, if I’m being totally honest, gets really boring). There’s a never-ending influx of these hitting the market every week.
More puffs, more bells and whistles, Blah, blah, blah. But with outright bans in the UK and state-wide bans on them in the US, it’s almost starting to feel like this segment of the market might be cooked.
This isn’t a bad thing per se, though, and it could have been much, much worse too.
Texas lawmakers decided against its initial plan that would have banned almost all popular vapes. Instead, they reached a deal that only bans prefilled disposable vapes made in China, allowing refillable kits and open systems to stay on the market.
As noted up top, I mostly use refillable pod vapes, and the reason is threefold:
- They cost less to run.
- You get better flavor, battery life, and general performance.
- You can run whatever vape juice you like in them.
For the last 9+ months, my daily driver has been the Vaporesso XROS Pro 2.
It’s literally my constant companion. I’ve tested a bunch of other refillable pod vapes and, sure, some were great (especially the OXVA ones).
But for me, Vaporesso’s COREX-powered pods are what make the difference. You’re looking at anywhere from 4 to 6 weeks between pod changes, massive, dense flavor, and a pitch-perfect MTL draw.
For me, that’s all I need from a pod vape. I don’t want to be spending $20 every other week on spare pods and I want tonnes of flavor and an MTL draw.
Add in insanely good, all-day battery life thanks to its 2000mAh battery and, yeah… it’s easy to see why myself and plenty of other vapers positively swear by the Vaporesso XROS Pro 2.
