I started using nicotine pouches in 2024 as a way to cut down on my vaping. It worked. I now seldom vape in the week which means I’ve cut down by as much as 80% versus back prior to 2024.
One of the first brands I ever tried was VELO because they’re available literally everywhere. Next to ZYN (we have a flavour guide for them here), VELO is probably the most well known and visible brand in the market.
And to be frank: it’s Bright Spearmint flavour pouch is pretty much unbeatable in my opinion. I think I’ve probably bought over a 100 tins of it in the last few years!
And despite its Big Tobacco roots, it is hard to argue with the quality of VELO’s product:
- you never get a dud pouch,
- the flavors are perfectly executed,
- and there’s enough variation, flavours-wise, to satisfy nearly every platette.
Since 2024, I’ve worked my way through the ENTIRE range, that’s 20+ flavours in total. You have options ranging from soft spearmint and straightforward fruit to pouches to much harder-hitting menthol blends and ones with warm, spicy finishes.
So… what’s the best VELO flavour to try, you ask? As always, here’s my honest take of the entire range based on my own notes and those of the team that also use nicotine pouches.
The Best VELO Flavours, Ranked
Bright Spearmint is my top pick. It is clean, smooth and far less aggressive than VELO’s stronger peppermint pouches. Tropical Mango is the fruit flavour I would start with, while Crispy Peppermint is the better choice if you want a sharper mint.
The VELO Flavour I Would Buy First
If you have never tried VELO before, this is the safest place to start.
Bright Spearmint
This is the one I would hand to anyone new to nicotine pouches. It tastes like proper spearmint, rather than mint being used as an excuse to bury your mouth under a blast of menthol. Clean, smooth and easy to use regularly.

Crispy Peppermint
A sharper mint than Bright Spearmint, but more controlled than VELO’s freezing options.

Tropical Mango
My favourite fruit option. Full mango flavour without an icy finish taking over.

Purple Grape
A clear, rounded grape flavour without a strong blast of menthol getting in the way.

Ruby Berry
Juicy mixed berries with enough tartness to stop the flavour becoming overly sweet.

Strawberry Ice
Clear strawberry sweetness with a cooling finish that stays below full menthol territory.

Cherry Ice
A simple sweet cherry with enough cooling to stop the candy flavour feeling too heavy.

Mango Ice
Tropical mango with an icy finish. Pick this over Tropical Mango if you want more freshness.

Tropical Ice
A mixed tropical profile with noticeably more cooling than Mango Ice.

Tangy Lime
Sharp and tart rather than sugary. Great if you really like lime. I prefer mine in a gin and tonic.

Orange Spark
A lively citrus option, although it is less distinctive than Tangy Lime or Tropical Mango.

Frosty Lemon
Sharp lemon with cooling behind it. Try it if you want chilled citrus rather than a warmer fruit pouch.

Icy Berries
Several berry notes with strong cooling. Ruby Berry is the better choice if you want the fruit to lead.

Freezing Peppermint
A hard peppermint and menthol hit. Popular with experienced users, but far too cold for me.

Peppermint Storm
A fuller and more forceful mint than Crispy Peppermint, aimed squarely at stronger-mint fans.

Blueberry Ice
Sweet blueberry with a chilly finish. Pleasant, but the ice stops it being a pure berry pouch.

Wintry Watermelon
Watermelon mixed with peppermint. Refreshing, but less sweet than the name might suggest.
Shop The Full Range →
Peach Ice
A softer fruit-and-cooling combination. Reasonable, but less memorable than Mango or Ruby Berry.

Lime Flame
Citrus with a warm, spicy finish. Interesting, but not where I would start with VELO.

Mango Flame
Mango with added heat. Tropical Mango is better if you want the fruit to do the work.

Smooth Papaya
A mellow tropical flavour without cooling. Softer and less vivid than VELO’s mango options.

Spicy Papaya
The most niche flavour here. Leave this one until you know you enjoy VELO’s warming pouches.

It is the cleanest, easiest flavour in the range and the one I keep coming back to. If mint is not your thing, get Tropical Mango instead.
What about the VELO Mystery Collections?
VELO also does something called Mystery Collection; and as of right now there are three: Mystery Collection 1, 2 and 3, plus a Mystery Bundle.
These aren’t individual flavours, so I didn’t inlcude them in this ranking. They’re a gamble: you might get something you like, but you can’t choose the flavor profile in advance. You basically just roll the dice and get a surprise.
If you’re new to pouches, I’d avoid it until you know what you like and don’t mind trying a few dud flavours.
Which VELO flavour should a beginner try?

If you’re looking to try nicotine pouches and you want to go with VELO, you’re in good hands, and when it comes to flavours things can get a little overwhelming, so here’s how I’d breakdown the range:
- The best in the range for most people: Bright Spearmint.
- For a sharper mint: Crispy Peppermint.
- For fruit without much cooling: Tropical Mango or Purple Grape.
- For berries: Ruby Berry.
- For fruit with an icy finish: Strawberry Ice or Cherry Ice.
- For a strong menthol hit: Freezing Peppermint, once you know that’s the profile you want.
- For something unusual: Lime Flame or Mango Flame.
