I’ve already done a separate post on the best VELO flavours, a ranking of the best to the worst, based on my experiences of working my way through the entire range between 2024 and today.
But mint-based flavours, especially when you’re talking about nicotine pouches, is usually where most people start and some, like myself, tend to stay, so with this in mind, I figured a dedicated analysis of VELO’s mint flavours was worth doing.
- I have thoughts on each of VELO’s mint flavours; some are better than others, some are harsher, some are sweeter, and some are way more intense.
- I also have my favourite of the range (Bright Spearmint) which, for me, is perhaps the best-tasting spearmint pouch on the market (and I’ve tested over 30+ brands in the last couple of years).
This guide covers all the current mint options available inside VELO’s nicotine pouch range. The range covers everything from soft spearmint to sharp peppermint and seriously cold menthol.
Here’s how they breakdown and which is likely you’re best jumping-off point, if you’re new to VELO pouches:
The Best VELO Mint Flavours, Ranked
Bright Spearmint is the VELO mint I would recommend to most people. It tastes clean, smooth and properly minty without burying your mouth under menthol. Crispy Peppermint is the better choice if you want more bite, while the other two are aimed at people who actively enjoy stronger cooling.
Which VELO Mint Should You Buy?
The main difference is cooling. Start with Bright Spearmint for a softer everyday pouch and move down the list as you want more peppermint and menthol.
Bright Spearmint
This is the VELO mint I would recommend to most people. It has a clear spearmint taste, with enough freshness to feel like a proper mint pouch but without an intense menthol chill taking over.
Bright Spearmint tastes like the flavour it says it is. It is smooth, easy to keep using and does not become exhausting after a few minutes. It is also the one I buy again and again.
Crispy Peppermint
Crispy Peppermint is sharper than Bright Spearmint, with a more direct peppermint taste and a cooler finish. It still feels reasonably controlled, though. You get more bite without jumping straight to VELO’s freezing options.
Pick this if you prefer peppermint to spearmint, or if Bright Spearmint sounds a little too soft.
Freezing Peppermint
Freezing Peppermint does what the name suggests. It combines strong peppermint with a big menthol hit, and the cold sensation is very much the main event.
I find it far too cold compared with Bright Spearmint or Crispy Peppermint. If you already use intense mint pouches, though, this may be exactly what you want.
Peppermint Storm
Peppermint Storm is another one for people who want a stronger mint. It has a fuller, more forceful profile than Crispy Peppermint, with plenty of cooling behind it.
I would choose Crispy Peppermint if you want a sharper flavour that is still fairly easygoing. Choose Peppermint Storm if you specifically want something punchier.
Choose This VELO Mint If…
Match the flavour to how much mint and cooling you actually want.
Start With Bright Spearmint
It is the cleanest, smoothest and easiest mint in the VELO range to use regularly. Get Crispy Peppermint if you want more bite. Only move to Freezing Peppermint or Peppermint Storm if you already know you enjoy stronger cooling.
Bright Spearmint vs Crispy Peppermint
These are the two I’d put in front of most people deciding which VELO mint to try.
| If you want… | Try… |
|---|---|
| A softer, smoother everyday mint | Bright Spearmint |
| A sharper peppermint taste | Crispy Peppermint |
| A much colder menthol hit | Freezing Peppermint |
| A fuller, more forceful mint | Peppermint Storm |
- Bright Spearmint is my clear favourite; it’s softer and sweeter but still has that crispness you want and expect from a mint-based pouch. VELO’s spearmint is also one of the best spearmint blends I’ve tested to date (and I’ve tested over 30+ nicotine pouch brands since 2024).
- Crispy Peppermint is the one to try if you want more bite. It’s much crisper and it lacks the sweet, delicateness you get with spearmint. If you’re unsure which is right for you, go with Bright Spearmint. It’s one of the only pouch flavours I think 99.9% of people will like.
Which VELO mint should a beginner try?

If you’re a beginner or this is your first time considering VELO pouches, my advice is to keep it simple: go with a mint-based flavour to begin with (I’d recommend Bright Spearmint) or, if you’re prefer something sweeter, Strawberry Ice is very good too with its sweet notes and icy tang.
The harder, more intense mint-based pouches might be a little too much for a complete beginner’s palette. Again, VELO has over 20+ flavours in its current range (and I’ve ranked all of them in this flavour ranking resource).
If mint ain’t your thing, check out that guide. You’ll find something you like the sound of, I’m sure.
If you know you already like peppermint, try Crispy Peppermint; it’s more delicate and softer than Freezing Peppermint and Peppermint Storm. Both of these are much harsher, so potentially not a great first-time pouch.
My pick: Bright Spearmint

VELO’s Bright Spearmint has been one of my go-to pouches for the last 24+ months. I tend to buy mine in bulk because it saves me a fortune versus buying them in my local Spar (where they’re almost 2x more expensive).
Next to ALP’s Mountain Wintergreen, VELO’s Bright Spearmint is probably the pouch I have used most to date. It’s crisp, sweet, delicate, and the quality, mouth-feel and consistency, whereby each pack is the same with the same flavor and feel, are market-leading in my opinion.
For me, it’s the current GOAT inside VELO’s pouch lineup and the price per tin (if you go for multibuy is very affordable). I do like its sweeter and fruit-based flavours too, but with pouches, for whatever reason, I feel like mint-based flavours just tend to work better.
