Apollo’s AirVape Legacy Pro is one of the most hyped and most talked about vaporizers on the planet. Is it better than the Mighty Plus? Does it live up to the hype? Here’s my 2 cents on this super-smart weed vape…
TL;DR: Is The AirVape Legacy Pro Worth It?
And the flavor and its dual-use nature (it’ll do concentrates) make it super versatile as well.
Pros
- Rich, Flavorful Vapor: The hybrid heating system and high-quality components make for one of the tastiest vapor experiences out there.
- Super Fast Heat-Up: It heats up in under 15 seconds, so you’re not waiting around for your session to start.
- Swappable Battery: The removable 3,200 mAh battery paired with USB-C fast charging and wireless charging options is a huge plus for portability.
- Precise Temperature Control: The 1-degree adjustments and high-temp wax mode give you full control over each session.
- Eco-Friendly Build: Made with hemp-based fabric and vegan leather, it’s stylish and sustainable.
What Could Be Improved
- Battery Life: While 60 minutes of active use is decent, it doesn’t match the Mighty+. However, the removable battery does add some flexibility here.
- Draw Resistance: A packed bowl can be a bit tight at first, though it improves after a few hits. The water pipe adapter helps open up airflow.
- Maintenance Needs: The glass vapor path and ceramic mouthpiece deliver top-notch flavor, but they do require regular cleaning to keep things fresh. Dosing caps help keep the mess down, but they’re an extra purchase.
Verdict: The Legacy Pro is a versatile, feature-packed vaporizer that gives you excellent flavor and fast performance. While it needs more maintenance than the Mighty+ and doesn’t have quite as long of a battery life, it’s a top choice for those who want a stylish, portable vape with the latest in charging and fastest heat-up times on the market – 15 seconds is INSANE!
AirVape Legacy Pro Review
Design
If you’re like me and want a portable vape that doesn’t skimp on quality or features, the Legacy Pro is definitely worth a look.
I’m gonna cut right to chase and say I really, really like this vaporizer.
I’ve been using it for months and while it ticks nearly all of my boxes, I’m just still not sure whether I prefer it to the Mighty+ vaporizer (more on this in a bit though).
Out of the box, the Legacy Pro feels premium and extremely well put together. It does look a little plasticky and cheap in images online but this is definitely NOT the case in the hand.
Crafted from durable, eco-friendly materials with cover options made from hemp-based fabric and vegan leather, it looks properly smart – way more modern looking than my Crafty+ and Mighty+.
At 232 grams it is also considerably more compact too. It does have a solid weight to it, but it’s still extremely pocketable. In the hand (and the pocket) it has the same kind of weight and feel as some of my vape mods.
Personally, I don’t mind this. I like my vaporizers with a big of heft; flimsy ones are fine and dandy, but I need something that can survive drops on rocks when I’m hiking. The Legacy Pro hits the mark in this context, no problem. Apollo clearly knows what it is doing.
Ease of Use
Operating the AirVape Legacy Pro is refreshingly easy, even if you’re new to vaping. I’ll break down my experience with it so you know what to expect.
Getting Started: Loading and Turning It On
To load the Legacy Pro, just open the sturdy hinged door to access the chamber. The gold-plated chamber is easy to fill without much spillover. Once loaded, you’re only three quick clicks on the power button away from starting your session—a straightforward, beginner-friendly setup that I appreciated right off the bat.
Setting the Temperature
The temperature control is highly precise, letting you adjust in 1-degree increments from 93°C to 227°C. I found this especially useful for dialing in just the right heat for both flavor and cloud density.
It’s perfect if you’re particular about your experience or want to explore different profiles of your herbs and concentrates. If you’re using concentrates, the “wax mode” above 427°F delivers a serious kick, which is a great feature for concentrate fans.
Switching Modes: Session and On-Demand
One of the features I loved is the choice between session mode and on-demand mode. Holding the up and down buttons together lets you toggle between them.
- Session mode keeps the device at a steady temperature, ideal for a longer, relaxed vape.
This flexibility really enhances the device’s appeal, as it can adapt to whatever mood I’m in.
What I Liked
- Super Fast Heat-Up: The Legacy Pro heats up in under 15 seconds, which is incredibly fast, especially compared to some other portable devices.
- Precise Temperature Control: I loved the 1-degree adjustments, which let me experiment and find the perfect settings.
- Easy Switching Between Modes: The dual modes make it versatile, so I can choose between quick sips or a full session without any hassle.
What Could Be Improved
- Draw Resistance: When the bowl is packed, there’s some noticeable resistance. It eases up after a few draws, but it’s something to be aware of.
- Regular Maintenance: The multiple parts, especially the glass vapor path and screens, require regular cleaning to maintain flavor quality. Dosing caps help reduce the mess, but I wish they came included rather than being an extra purchase.
Heat-Up Times & Heating Tech
The AirVape Legacy Pro’s heating system is a hybrid setup that combines convection and conduction heating. This hybrid approach leverages the best of both worlds, maximizing flavor and efficiency in each session. Let’s break down how each heating method works in the Legacy Pro, and why this combination is so beneficial.
How the Heating System Works
- Convection Heating: In the Legacy Pro, convection heating uses hot air to heat your herbs or concentrates. When you draw on the device, air is pulled through the heating chamber, and this hot air evenly vaporizes the material from all sides without direct contact. Convection is especially popular among flavor chasers because it tends to preserve the delicate terpenes in dry herbs, which are responsible for most of the flavor and aroma. Since it doesn’t directly touch the material, convection also reduces the risk of combustion, keeping your hits smooth and flavorful.
- Conduction Heating: Conduction, on the other hand, heats your material through direct contact with the hot walls of the chamber. In the Legacy Pro, this is done with a gold-plated heating chamber, which heats up quickly and allows for fast, intense vapor production. Conduction is great for getting thick clouds because it delivers consistent, powerful heat directly to the herb or concentrate.
Why the Hybrid Heating System is Beneficial
The hybrid system in the Legacy Pro allows the device to be fast and flexible. Convection alone can sometimes be slow to heat up, while conduction can sometimes overheat material. But by combining these two methods, the Legacy Pro achieves a balance: quick heat-up times with a smooth, full-flavored vapor.
Here are some specific benefits:
- Quick Heat-Up Time: Thanks to the conduction component, the Legacy Pro can reach vaping temperature in as little as 15 seconds. This is far faster than most convection-only devices, which might take twice as long. You’re able to start your session almost instantly, ideal for those who want convenience on the go.
- Enhanced Flavor: The convection heating ensures that your material heats evenly and gently, especially at lower temperatures, preserving flavor. Since the air, not the heating element, does most of the work, your herbs are vaporized without any direct scorching, so you get pure, terpene-rich hits every time.
- Dense Clouds: The conduction heating helps achieve thicker clouds since it generates a more immediate and powerful heating effect on the material. This is especially useful if you’re after robust clouds rather than just light sips of vapor.
- Efficiency and Control: With the Legacy Pro’s precise 1-degree temperature adjustments (ranging from 93°C to 227°C), you’re able to fine-tune the hybrid heating to your preference. You can start at a lower temperature to enjoy full flavor from the convection effect, then increase the heat for stronger clouds as the conduction kicks in, giving you the best of both worlds in one session.
- Versatile for Both Herbs and Concentrates: The hybrid system is especially beneficial if you like to switch between dry herbs and concentrates. Convection heating is excellent for preserving flavor in herbs, while conduction provides the higher heat needed for concentrates, particularly when using the Legacy Pro’s “wax mode” setting above 427°F.
Overall, the Legacy Pro’s hybrid system means you get fast, full-bodied vapor without the downsides of either heating method alone. The convection preserves flavor and smoothness, while the conduction delivers power and clouds, making this heating system one of the standout features of the Legacy Pro.
Temperature Range: How Hot Does the Legacy Pro Get?
The AirVape Legacy Pro takes precision to the next level with its temperature control, ranging from 93°C to 227°C (200°F to 437°F).
This wide range lets you fine-tune every session, whether you’re after pure flavor, dense clouds, or a balanced mix of both.
You’ve got complete control over your experience, and the device responds with accuracy down to each degree.
For concentrate lovers, the Legacy Pro even goes up to a maximum of 464°F in “wax mode.”
This high setting is perfect for unlocking the full potential of concentrates, delivering powerful hits without sacrificing smoothness. In this respect, it’s one of the most versatile vaporizers out there—tailor each session to suit your taste, mood, or materials.
What I Liked
- Temperature Flexibility: The wide range and single-degree adjustments make it easy to customize for flavor, clouds, or a combination.
- High Temp for Concentrates: Wax mode at 464°F provides a solid option for concentrate sessions.
What Could Be Improved
- Learning Curve: For beginners, having so many temperature options might feel overwhelming at first, though it’s easy to get the hang of with a bit of experimentation.
The Legacy Pro’s precise temperature control is a huge plus. Whether you’re all about taste, clouds, or somewhere in between, this device gives you the freedom to find your ideal setting every time.
AirVape Legacy Vaping Modes
The Legacy Pro comes with two handy vaping modes. Each of them does something a little differently and while it does sound dangerously close to being a gimmick, they’re actually pretty handy.
Here’s how the two modes work in practice:
In session mode, the device keeps a consistent temperature, making it perfect for long, uninterrupted sessions where you can just sit back and enjoy. It’s straightforward and delivers a smooth, continuous experience.
But on-demand mode is where the Legacy Pro shines. The heater only kicks in when you hold down the power button, keeping your herbs fresher and preserving flavor between hits.
This feature is great if you want quick, efficient hits without draining the battery or overcooking your material. I use this mode ALL the time, especially when I’m by myself, watching a movie or walking the dog.
Switching between modes is simple too: just hold the up and down buttons together, and select the one you want. Simples.
What I Liked
- Versatility: The choice between session and on-demand modes is great for adapting to different vaping styles.
- Flavor Preservation: On-demand mode keeps herbs fresh and flavorful, even during longer sessions.
What Could Be Improved
- Mode Switching: While it’s simple enough, a dedicated switch would make mode changing a bit more intuitive.
On-demand mode is a standout feature for flavor enthusiasts, letting you savor each hit without wasting battery or herbs, and session mode is perfect when you want to settle in for a while.
Battery Life and Charging
The removable 3,200 mAh battery in the AirVape Legacy Pro is a standout feature that really adds to its portability.
For me, the convenience of a removable battery can’t be overstated—especially when paired with USB-C fast charging and wireless charging options.
If you’re someone who likes to keep your device powered up without a lot of hassle, this setup is ideal.
I usually let it charge overnight on my wireless pad, which is a great hands-off option, but when I’m out and about, the USB-C fast charge does the job in no time.
Battery life clocks in at around 60 minutes of active use, which is decent but a bit shorter than competitors like the Mighty+.
That said, the removable battery really makes up for this.
Swapping in a fresh battery when the power starts running low is a game-changer, especially if you’re planning a long day or a weekend trip.
Just keep an extra battery in your bag (spoiler: you’ll need to buy one seperately), and you’re good to go—no need to be constantly searching for a charging spot.
What I Liked
- Swappable Battery: The freedom to swap batteries is fantastic for keeping the session going on the go.
- Dual Charging Options: USB-C fast charging is super handy, and wireless charging is a nice touch for convenience.
What Could Be Improved
- Battery Life: While 60 minutes is decent, a bit more battery life would make it a stronger competitor against other high-end vapes like the Mighty+.
Between the removable battery and dual charging options, the Legacy Pro is built for portability and convenience. It’s ideal for anyone who values flexibility and doesn’t want to be tethered to an outlet for too long.
Vapor Quality & Flavor
Thanks to its hybrid heating system (combining convection and conduction), the Legacy Pro delivers dense, smooth vapor that’s packed with flavor.
From my first session, I could tell the difference (versus the IQ3; I was testing this alongside it) — the taste is incredibly pure, and the glass vapor path and ceramic mouthpiece help keep it that way, even at higher temperatures.
For the most part, I’d say it is up there with the best vaporizers I have tested to date. When it’s playing ball, it is damn-near perfect. But there are some caveats.
The draw resistance, for one, can be a bit tight, especially with a packed bowl, but it eases up after a few hits.
If you’re after bigger, cooler clouds, I’d definitely recommend using the water pipe adapter. It opens up the airflow and makes each draw feel more effortless, adding to the overall experience.
With a maximum temperature of 464°F, the Legacy Pro is versatile enough for both dry herbs and concentrates. This high-heat setting, dubbed “wax mode,” is designed specifically for concentrates and, in my brief experience with it, I’m a flower kinda guy mostly, it worked flawlessly.
What I Liked
- Rich Flavor: The hybrid heating system really enhances flavor, and the glass and ceramic components preserve it beautifully.
- Versatility: The high-temp option for concentrates and smooth handling of dry herbs make it adaptable to different preferences.
What Could Be Improved
- Draw Resistance: The tight draw with a full bowl could be improved for a smoother hit, but it’s manageable and can be helped by the water pipe adapter.
If flavor is your main priority, the Legacy Pro is a top-notch choice. Its hybrid heating system ensures that every hit is flavorful and dense, while the device’s construction keeps that flavor pure, even at higher temps.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Keeping the AirVape Legacy Pro clean requires some commitment, but it’s absolutely worth it if you want to keep that top-shelf flavor.
The device’s glass vapor path and ceramic mouthpiece do an excellent job of preserving flavor, but they—and the screens—can build up residue over time. A quick cleaning routine will go a long way in maintaining that fresh taste.
If you’re looking to make things easier, I’d definitely recommend investing in dosing caps. Not only do they help keep the chamber and vapor path tidy, but they also cut down on the frequency of deep cleans, saving you a bit of time and hassle.
What I Liked
- Pure Flavor Preservation: Regular cleaning keeps the flavor sharp and fresh.
- Dosing Caps Reduce Mess: These caps make maintenance simpler and keep everything cleaner.
What Could Be Improved
- Maintenance Requirement: The number of parts to clean (vapor path, mouthpiece, screens) might be a bit much for users who prefer low-maintenance devices.
While cleaning the Legacy Pro is a bit more involved, it pays off in flavor quality. Dosing caps are a worthwhile addition to make upkeep easier, and if you’re serious about getting the best taste, a regular cleaning routine is a small trade-off.
Final Verdict: Is The AirVape Legacy Pro Worth It?
This Legacy Pro nails the essentials with style—offering robust, eco-friendly materials like hemp-based fabric and vegan leather, giving it a modern look and a premium feel.
In the hand, it’s got just the right weight, compact enough for portability but sturdy enough to handle rougher adventures.
One of the Legacy Pro’s biggest wins is its hybrid heating system. Combining convection and conduction heating, it’s quick to reach your chosen temperature and delivers consistently smooth, flavorful vapor.
I’ve been impressed with how well it balances dense clouds and pure flavor, especially with the glass vapor path and ceramic mouthpiece keeping every hit fresh and smooth.
The dual modes—session and on-demand—are another feature I’ve come to love.
They make this device perfect for any situation, whether you’re looking for quick, efficient hits on the go or want to settle into a longer session. Switching between the modes is easy, and I found myself using on-demand mode frequently to save battery and keep the herbs tasting fresh.
