If you want to get the best out of your vaping equipment, it’s essential to clean and maintain it properly. Grime, dust, and pocket lint are not only unhygienic, but also clog vents and restrict airflow, affecting the functioning of even the best box mod kits

Plus, cleaning your vape mod isn’t just a matter of performance and flavor quality—it’s also an essential hygiene practice. You probably put your vape tank in your mouth hundreds of times a day. This is a direct entry card for microbes into your body unless you keep your device clean.

The good news is: cleaning your vape mod is very simple, and you can easily do it by following our guide below.

How to Clean Your Vape Mod

If your vape flavor starts tasting funky or you notice residue building up inside, it’s time to clean your vape mod. Here’s what you should do:

  1. Start by cleaning the external areas of the device, including the main body of the mod, the screen, and the fire button. Use a soft, lint-free cloth, and make sure not to rub too hard—you don’t want to etch the plastic.
  1. If there’s dust/lint accumulated in hard-to-reach areas like charging ports or seams, use a toothpick to remove it gently. When cleaning your micro USB port, clean slowly and gently—this part has delicate metal pins that can bend quite easily, and you don’t want to damage them while cleaning.
  1. Next, remove oxidation and e-liquid residue from your mod’s threading. You can do this by inserting a clean cotton swab and gently pushing down while spinning it. Repeat this process with a fresh cotton swab until it comes out clean. This step is very important to ensure consistent power transfer between the mod and tank, because e-liquid can contaminate the device’s internal components if not properly removed from the threading.

Typically, you don’t need to clean inside the vape mod’s battery compartment because it is well-protected from dust and is closed most of the time. However, if e-liquid leaks inside your vape mod, you should remove the battery, dry it thoroughly, and set it aside. Then, use paper towels to remove as much of the e-liquid as possible from inside the battery compartment. Finally, rinse thoroughly and dry with a paper towel or let air dry before reassembling.

If you’re concerned that the e-liquid has reached your internal electronics, you could try removing the moisture by sealing your vape mod in a bag of dried rice for twenty-four hours. You can also use silica gel packets as an alternative to rice. Once you remove the bag after a day or longer, your device should work just fine.

When to Clean Your Vape Mod

For the first couple of months of a brand-new vape, your hits will feel smooth and velvety. But with consistent use, residue and other particles can build up along the pathways, changing the quality of your hit and vape flavor.

Ideally, you should clean your vape at least once every month. A thorough clean once a month is generally sufficient to keep your vape operational and free of built-up debris and germs. However, regular users should clean once per week or more, depending on the frequency of use.

If you’re wondering whether your mod needs cleaning, here are some signs it’s time to get going:

  1. There are signs of residue build-up.
  2. The device is having trouble producing vapor.
  3. The device pathway seems obstructed.
  4. You need to take harder pulls to produce its usual effect.
  5. Your vape flavor tastes funky.

Final Thoughts

Cleaning your vaporizer should be a regular habit for all users. Cleaning your device not only helps the flavor stay pure, but is also more hygienic and grants better hits. You should also clean out your mod and tank every time you change flavors—leftover juice can combine with your new flavor to make some not-so-pleasant combinations!
