The Firefly 2 is one badass vaporizer. But it can be tricky to get the hang of initially. Not for you though… because you have these EPIC 10 Firefly 2 tips and tricks
Firefly 2 Tips and Tricks | A Quick Guide For New Users
1) Pack The Bowl Properly
The Firefly 2 is a convection vaporizer. This means you need to ensure you pack the bowl correctly. Normally, this means not over packing. But here, more is better.
You want to pack the bowl as tightly as possible. Try to make sure it is flush with the top lip of the oven. Once you’ve done this, clear away any excess materials from the device and replace the front panel.
2) Let It Heat-Up Once, Then Do It Again
Not getting any vapor from the Firefly 2?
Here’s a little tip: hold the buttons so that it heats up, let it run for 10 seconds, stop, now do it again. Once it’s heated a second time, starting taking a draw – slowly and deeply.
Exhale. Boom, you got vapor!
3) Start Low, End HIGH (Pun Intended)
You don’t want to just set the heating controls of the Firefly 2 and leave them. Instead, you want to start at a low setting when you first install a new bowl. Then, once you’re about halfway through, up it to medium.
Lastly, when your bowl is nearing the end of its life, whack it up to full power and blitz the remaining materials. Doing this ensures you vaporize all the active components in your weed properly, rather than just burning them all off in one fell swoop.
4) Don’t Grind Your Weed Too Much
This one is SUPER important. The first time I used the Firefly 2 we ground up the weed way to fine (we used a coffee bean grinder). Normally, this is fine. It’s great for the PAX and DaVinci IQ. Not here, though…
No, with the Firefly 2 you want to use coarsely ground weed – you want it chunky and clumpy. The reason for this is that it vaporizes better inside its convection-heater bowl.
If you do it too fine, the materials will just move around too much, clog the airway, and basically not vape very well at all. So keep it nice and chunky!
5) Get That S**T Nice n’ Tight
Once you’ve ground everything up, all the while remembering to keep it nice and coarse, you need to pack it into the bowl nice and tight. You don’t want any room for movement. This point is important which is why I’ve mentioned it twice. Don’t forget!
6) Make Sure You’re Taking Draws Correctly
The key to getting the most from the Firefly 2 is how you draw on the mouthpiece. You want to take long, deep draws that last around 6-10 seconds. It sounds weird, but you quickly get used to it.
In contrast, short, sharp draws will deliver nothing in the way of vapor or flavor, so avoid these at all costs. This vaporizer is designed for long, deep, controlled draws. Do this and you’ll get plenty of vapor and MASSIVE flavor.
7) Make Sure You Stir Up The Material In The Bowl
OK, this is easily the most annoying thing about the Firefly 2 – especially if you use it while hiking or walking the dog. You have to stir up the materials mid-way through a bowl.
It took me ages to figure this out, so don’t make the same mistake I did.
Stir your weed!
Normally, the best time to do this is about halfway through a bowl. All it does is ensure that all the materials are heated evenly which, in turn, ensures you get your money’s worth.
This is the ONLY downside to having a convection heating element. It’s insanely fast (around three seconds) but you have to fiddle with the bowl in order to get ALL materials 100% vaporized, proving you really can’t have the sweet without the sour.
8) How To Use Auto-Shutoff Mode To Your Advantage
The Firefly 2 features auto-shutoff; basically, this means that when you’re done vaping on it the device will automatically shut off, saving you precious points on the battery life front.
But here’s how you can use it to your advantage. Before it kicks in, while the oven is still nice and hot, you can then do a secondary burn and get even more heat in the bowl. This creates more vaper and, as you’d expect, a bigger hit.
9) Get Acquainted With The Firefly Phone App
The Firefly Phone App (available for Android and iPhone) is great. And don’t be put off, thinking it’s rubbish like DaVinci’s because it really isn’t. Inside this app, you set everything up. It’s important you do this too, or else the vaporizer won’t perform correctly.
As noted earlier, I like to start off new bowls nice and low (Ultra-Low), then move up to Medium, and then, for the end, High.
This ensures you get through everything in an efficient and tasty manner. And it’s always good having a proper burn at the end of the session too.
You can also name your Firefly 2 vaporizer inside the app, adjust settings for when you’re using concentrates, check battery levels, and even access Firefly’s retail store. It works great and is super-easy to use.
