Richard Goodwin founded VapeBeat in 2015 after quitting smoking and switching to vaping himself.
Like many people making the transition, he found the market confusing. There were hundreds of products, conflicting advice, and very little trustworthy information to help smokers choose the right device.
Drawing on his background in digital publishing and while working at Dennis Publishing in London at the time (he started as a technology journalist in 2009), Richard launched VapeBeat with a simple goal: create the resource he wished had existed when he started vaping.
Today, Richard oversees VapeBeat’s editorial strategy, content quality, and commercial direction. While he no longer reviews every product personally, he works closely with the editorial team to ensure every buying guide, review, and news article meets the publication’s editorial standards.
Before founding VapeBeat, Richard spent years working in digital publishing, producing editorial content and managing online publications.
His experience in SEO, audience development, and content strategy has helped grow VapeBeat from a small independent blog into one of the web’s longest-running vaping publications.
Over the past decade, Richard has overseen the publishing of more than 1,000 articles covering vaping technology, nicotine products, tobacco harm reduction, industry regulation, and consumer buying advice.
VapeBeat has helped millions of readers better understand vaping products and make more informed purchasing decisions.
Alongside running VapeBeat, Richard is the founder of AtomizedSEO, an SEO consultancy that works with businesses in highly competitive and heavily regulated industries.
In 2019, he also acquired KnowYourMobile from Dennis Publishing and transformed it into a refurbished phone comparison platform, helping consumers compare trusted refurbished devices, save money, and reduce electronic waste.
Although Richard no longer smokes, he continues to use refillable pod systems and nicotine pouches, giving him ongoing first-hand experience with the products and technologies covered on VapeBeat.
Richard believes readers should never have to rely on marketing claims when choosing a vape product. Every article published on VapeBeat is designed to answer real questions, explain products clearly, and present balanced recommendations based on practical testing and industry experience.
His guiding principle remains the same as it was in 2015:
Help adult smokers and existing vapers make informed decisions with honest, evidence-based information.

I test a lot of gear every month. New stuff is sent in for review, I buy things, and new brands reach out to get their products vetted by me. What I currently use as my daily-drivers, though, are usually pretty consistent most of the time.
Main Vape
For the past 12+ months or so, my main vape (the one I use every day) has been the Vaporesso XROS Pro 2.
My Go-To Juice
The juice I use most is Sour Pineapple and Blueberry Sour Raspberry in Longfill format.
Vaporizers, Dab Rigs & Desktops
I bought the Mighty+ in 2022 and that’s been my constant ever since. It’s pricey but well worth the investment. For desktops, I use the Volcano Hybrid and Arizer XQ2.
And for electric dab rigs, I love the Dr Dabber Switch 2 and, more recently, the PuffCo Pivot for when I’m travelling.
