The PuffCo Peak Pro is a badass setup. Iβve owned one since it first dropped and in all the time I’ve been using it (around 2.5 years) Iβve never thought, I wish this was better.
Whether youβre advanced or a beginner, it is one of the best e-rigs on the market right now.

But the PuffCo Peak Pro 3DXL is the better overall rig if weβre talking about things like performance and features:
- It has better airflow control.
- The heating element is more advanced, gives way more control
- It delivers around 2x the vapor output of the Peak Pro.
These are big differences. But are they worth an additional $120? That I cannot answer for you.
If you want the absolute best that PuffCo has to offer right now, go with the PuffCo Peak 3DXL. Itβs the iPhone Pro Max of the range.
It’s expensive but it is damn impressive. Your friends will love you, and your solo sessions will never be the same again.
If you’re OK with the basics and rock-solid performance? Get the PuffCo Peak Pro, itβs $120 cheaper and still one of the best e-rigs on the market.

PuffCo Peak Pro vs 3DXL: Whatβs Different (And Why It Matters)

Chamber Size
- Standard Peak Pro: Regular 3D chamber
- 3DXL: 78% larger chamber
Why It Matters:
A larger chamber = bigger dabs. The 3DXL is built for those who want heavy-duty sessions, not just one or two quick hits.
Youβll get longer sessions without refilling constantly which makes it great for group sessions or when you want to get really, really baked.
Vapor Output
- Standard: Moderate vapor, flavor-first
- 3DXL: Up to 2x the vapor per hit
Why It Matters:
If you’re looking for the maximum amount of vapor, PuffCo has tweaked the 3DXL to deliver a lot more vapor than the Peak Pro.
You’re looking at like 2x the volume with the 3DXL, thanks to its larger chamber and the fact it has more power under the hood.
After using both, this was the most noticeable difference between the two. It’s like night and day. Just make sure you’re ready for it because it can deliver A LOT of vapor.
Heating Element

- Standard: 3D sidewall heating
- 3DXL: Enhanced 3D heating with more surface area
Why It Matters:
More heating surface = better heat retention and consistency, especially for back-to-back dabs.
Less temp fluctuation = better experience.
Pretty simple, right? Not a deal-breaker, mind, but this is something that veteran dabbers will really enjoy.
Battery Life
- Standard: Slightly longer battery life
- 3DXL: Shorter battery life (around 20 sessions)
Why It Matters:
The bigger chamber on the 3DXL pulls more power, so if youβre always on the go or forget to charge, the standard model might suit you better.
But for at-home use, this isn’t a deal-breaker. And neither of these dab rigs are what I’d describe as portable.
If you want something you can dab on the go with, check out the PuffCo Proxy or one of the smaller rigs from our Best Dab Rig Guide (All Budgets & Sizes).
Cap Style

- Standard: Basic carb cap
- 3DXL: Joystick-style directional airflow cap
Why It Matters:
The 3DXLβs cap is a subtle upgrade that makes a noticeable difference in draw resistance and airflow dynamics.
The more control you have over airflow, the smoother and cooler hits and the better vapor control.
Again, not something most beginners would care about. But I like this kind of thing. Whether it’s worth the extra cash, I honestly couldn’t say.
It’s nice to have, put it that way.
Price

- Standard: ~$300
- 3DXL: ~$420
Why It Matters:
You’re paying about $120 more for the 3DXL, and what you get is more capacity, more vapor, and more control over how it vapes.
It’s basically a Pro Max version of the Peak Pro and for certain types of users, this will be all they need to know to buy it.
I have the Peak Pro 3DXL and I wouldn’t trade mine in for anything else, except maybe a new guitar or something.
If you’re more into value for money versus more superfluous features and upgrades just go with the standard PuffCo Peak Pro, it still delivers some of the best performance in the game.
And for $120 less, you cannot really argue with that. As I said in the intro, I own the PuffCo Peak Pro and at no point during my time with it did I ever think, hmmm I wish this was better.
