PuffCo is the darling of the e-rig world. Everybody loves them, myself included.
I own the PuffCo Peak Pro (as well as the Proxy) and the Dr Dabber Switch 2.
But if I could only keep one, it’d be the Switch 2.
Why? Mainly performance.
But also because I think it is a better overall platform; it hits harder and longer and it costs less to run.
I sat down with both last week and put together some notes, read on below for a more detailed breakdown.

Why The Dr Dabber Switch 2 Is Better Than The PuffCo Peak Pro 3DXL

Better Heating, No Atomizer Hassles
This is the main reason why I prefer the Switch 2 over the PuffCo Peak Pro 3D XL.
The Switch 2 uses induction heating, so youβll never deal with burnt coils or atomizer replacements which cost money.
Yes, they last a while between changes but over the course of your ownership, the extra spend will add up.
The fact you even have this cost with the Dr Dabber Switch 2 (and that it’ll also do bud / flower too) as well as the other reasons below make it a no brainer choice for me.
Reliability Over Gimmicks
I’ve never had any issues with any of my PuffCo rigs. But I do prefer the simplicity of how the Dr Dabber Switch 2 works.
Both rigs have onboard buttons for setting up and controlling sessions, and both use apps for more advanced settings.
But the Switch 2’s design, it uses fewer consumable parts (like the atomizer), and its induction heating make it a lot more resilient to the passing of time.
The combination of omni-directional induction heating and a 360 degree directional carb cap work together to redefine what people think is possible in the world of electronic dabs. The weather forecast says it will be cloudy. With precise temperature controls and modes, a new form factor, and the move from atomizers to inserts with 300% more space, Switch2 by Dr. Dabber is the e-rig that traditional dabbers have been waiting for.
Customizable, Powerful Sessions
Both of these rigs are great with respect to performance but I do prefer the way the Switch 2 operates. It’s dead simple, no fuss. And after a few sizable hits, that’s kind of exactly what you want.
The settings are simple enough for a first time user to understand right off the bat. with Steady, Ascent, and Descent modes to control how your dab heats.
You can get more granular if you like, but I tend to just stick to these presets; Dr Dabber knows what it’s doing. And you should always listen to your doctor.
Built to Last
The PuffCo Peak Pro 3DXL is a well made piece of kit. No one’s ever said it felt or looked cheap. But the Dr Dabber Switch 2 is in another league entirely when it comes to build quality.

The Switch 2 is a solid, premium-looking rig. As soon as you rip it out of the box, you know where your money went.
Itβs heavy, yes, but that makes it more stable, and doesnβt feel fragile like glass-heavy rigs. Basically, you can use it every day without worrying about it.
Dual-Use Power
Another big advantage is versatility. The Switch 2 handles both concentrates and flower, and it does both exceptionally well.
I like concentrates. But I also love flower. Flower is gentler, more chill, so rather than having to buy two different setups, the Switch 2 handles both disciplines.
Plus, with its incycler glass attachment, the airflow feels smoother and cooler, and because of its power the damn thing rips like a high-end desktop rig.
Huge Insert Chamber
If you like to go BIG with your dabs, the Dr Dabber Switch 2 is exactly what you’ve been looking for. Why’s that then?
Oh, just because its insert is 300% larger than standard chambers which lets you load up hits that’d take out Godzilla.
You don’t need to load it up to its full capacity, of course, it’s just as good for micro-dosing. But when you want to throw caution to the wind, the Switch 2 is 100% where it’s at.
Low Maintenance
One of the main things I hate about vaporizers and dab rigs, in general, is the amount of maintenance and cleaning you have to do.
In my vaporizers I use dosing capsules which cut down on maintenance and cleaning by as much as 80%. With dab rigs, it’s not quite as easy.
So, my standard operating procedure is to go with E-Rigs that run cleaner and don’t require me to clean it every bloody day. Because the Switch 2 doesn’t use a coil, it reduces the amount of cleaning you have to do compared to other rigs.
And that’s a big win for a lazy-ass stoner like me. You still have to clean the chamber, obvs, but it’s way less work in total than with the PuffCo.
I Like The PuffCo Peak Pro 3DXL But These Things Annoy Me About It

More Maintenance
Youβll need to replace atomizers regularly. That gets expensive and annoying fast which over the course of ownership is a big downside for me.
Shorter Battery Life
Itβs only 1700mAh. I don’t know why, given its size, PuffCo opted for such a small battery. My Vaporesso XROS Pro 2 pod vape has a larger battery and it is like 700% smaller.
For me, this is a big no-no for the 3DXL and another easy reason to go with the Dr Dabber Switch 2 instead.
Battery life is important. The more the better. Simple as that.
More Fragile
Lots of glass and delicate parts. Itβs sleek and it looks amazing, but it is not rugged. I worry about it whenever I’m using it. At parties, I get anxiety about my friends dropping it which is always a buzz-killer.
Higher Long-Term Cost
Between the price of replacement parts and shorter lifespan of coils, it ends up costing more over the medium and long run.
It’s a great rig, don’t get me wrong. The performance is massive and it looks great but the coil thing, at least for me, is a deal-breaker when you’re looking at these two rigs.
Should You Get The Dr Dabber Switch 2 Instead of a PuffCo?

I love my PuffCo rigs, and if they were all I owned I’d be perfectly happy. But because I get sent dab rigs to test and review, I end up getting to experience and compare all kinds of different setups.
Having used both the Dr Dabber Switch 2 and the PuffCo Peak Pro, and knowing what I do about most other e-rigs on the market, I honestly do not think there are two better options available right now.
But the Dr Dabber Switch 2 is the better option of the two.
The design is smarter, its induction heating mechanism does away with the need for atomizers, and its output is consistently more potent and pronounced than the PuffCo Peak Pro.
If you’re looking at these two dab rigs, my advice is simple: get the Dr Dabber Switch 2.
