This is VapeBeat’s full verdict on the SMOK TFV12 – one of the most badass vape tanks you can buy right now!

Today is a special day. Today we have the most infamous tank on the market for review, the Smok TFV12!

SMOK is easily the biggest and best sub-ohm tank maker on the planet right now. The company has been pumping out awesome tanks for the past 18 months and shows ZERO signs of slowing down in 2017.

The SMOK TFV 8 was a revelation when it landed, crushing the competition.

The SMOK TFV8 Baby Beast was an equally compelling setup, taking what made the SMOK TFV 8 so good and shrinking the design slightly.

Things have developed quite a bit since the arrival of the SMOK TFV8.

The competition has raised their respective games and now, a year or so later, you are quite literally spoilt for choice when it comes to sub-ohm tanks.

I do not ever remember there being as much choice as there is now; this makes choosing a sub-ohm tank all the more difficult.

We test loads of tanks every month and even some members of team VapeBeat struggle to decide.

The best vape tanks we’ve tested are saved inside our Best Vape Tank Guide – this way, our readers will always know what the best, current options are.

Price, features, coil quality – everything has become more competitive, more refined, better engineered. And the result of this is a huge influx of tanks from established players like Sense and Aspire, to new upstarts like Asvape and Oumier.

Most, though, cannot compete with SMOK’s huge distribution network. Walk into any vape shop in any country and you will see SMOK products.

And now SMOK is back with something truly EPIC… and it goes by the name of the SMOK TFV12 and, like its predecessor, it is one hell of a tank.

I’ve just spent the past two weeks getting acquainted with the SMOK TFV12 and I am now ready to offer up my opinions on the tank.

Let’s do this.

SMOK TFV12 Review: Package and Appearance

SMOK TFV12Pin

The packing used here is more or less the same as what you got with the SMOK TFV 8. It’s well put together, eye-catching and keeps everything nice and safe.

On the side we see three coils that come with the SMOK TFV 12. On the back is some information in regards to the TFV 12 and an authentication scratch off code.

Take off the outer covering and you’re presented with SMOK’s now standard black box. Inside rests the commandingly impressive TFV 12, a truly HUGE tank.

Underneath the TFV 12 is where all the extras live, which include:

  • Spare O-rings
  • Spare rubber grommet
  • Spare glass tube
  • Cloud Beast King tank ring
  • 0.12 V12-T12 coil
  • 0.15 V12-X4 coil
  • 0.15 V12-Quad4 coil

A nice haul and I’m glad to see that SMOK is keeping up its reputation for packing its kits full of spare parts and plenty of coils. Three coils, especially coils of this calibre, is a very impressive addition.

The SMOK TFV12 is a very handsome tank, just like its predecessors. The machining is spot on. I love the way it looks; it’s just so visually arresting – no one else makes tanks quite this good-looking.

Kudos, SMOK.

SMOK TFV12 Specs & Features

The SMOK TFV12 isn’t a massive update on what came before; you’re not missing out on a huge amount of features. But the new tank is definitely a more refined, high-performance unit than its predecessor.

As you can see in the specs below, SMOK has added in a few key updates in order to maximise the performance of this tank.

  • Stainless Steel Construction
  • Weight: 90.5g
  • Size: 27x70mm
  • Vape Juice Capacity: 6ML
  • 510 Threading

And now let’s take a look at the three new coils that the SMOK TFV12 ships with:

V12-Q4 Coil Head:

V12-X4 Coil Head:

V12 RBA – T Coil:

V12 RBA Coil Deck:

  • Dual Coil Deck

I cannot think of any other tank on the market that offers this kind of versatility when it comes to coils. You have support for RDA setups, standard setups and TONS of choice with the style of vaping you want to do.

SMOK’s coils, for the most part, are very reliable as well. I’ve been using the SMOK TFV8 for the best part of 18 months and in that time I have only come across a few dud coils. Compared to Aspire, this is an amazing batting average.

How To Prime SMOK TFV 8 & SMOK TFV 12 Coils PERFECTLY Every Time

There is a little trick to priming the coils correctly. SMOK doesn’t mention it in the literature that ships with the TFV 12, which is odd, as it works for ALL TFV series coils. Maybe they want you buying more coils? Who knows.

I happened on this method of priming by accident. After going through two coils in the space of a couple of days, I’d had enough, so I thought about the mechanics of the coil logically and developed a theory.

I tested said theory, and it worked – it worked like a charm.

The cotton inside these massive coils is seriously packed in, you see. It is also drier than the Sahara, so when you prime a coil, you REALLY have to drench it with juice.

When priming, hold the coil in a tissue and liberally apply juice directly to the cotton. Not on the sides, right down the middle of the coil, all over the cotton. Let it soak, then apply some more.

And when I say liberally, I mean soak it through to the core. You will use a lot of juice doing this, way more than a couple of drips, but doing so ensures the coil will fire at high wattages right from the outset.

You can tell when the coil is completely primed, once the the cotton you can see through the holes on the side is soaked with the stuff. Once you see this, you can fill the rest of the tank up and vape your ass off.

SMOK TFV12 Review: Performance

SMOK TFV12Pin

This is the section most people are antsy for so without further ado….

With the massive 0.12ohm V12-T12 coil installed I juiced up the coil and filled the tank. After a solid 15 minute wait I started to vape the Smok TFV12 at 90W and I did get some decent flavor and small clouds.

Working my way up the wattage tier I noticed at 150W the flavor stood out a lot more and the clouds were getting big and thick. Upon reaching my max 250W on my RX2/3 it seemed the T12 coil started to give a dry hit when chain vaped.

Backing down to 185W yielded my best results all around. The flavor and Cloud production are superb. The performance is similar to the TFV 8; it vapes more or less the same. But you feel as if it can do that little bit extra.

If you’re a cloud-chaser and you want to chase those REALLY high wattages, this is the tank you need in your life. Like an AMG Mercedes or a BMW M edition car, it looks mean and it has TONS of power on the hood. More than most people will ever need or use.

The Smok TFV12 has a HUGE RDA-like airflow system, which insures cool vaping even at super-high temperatures. It still gets hot, however, when you’re vaping north of 200W, so, as always, be mindful of this when chain vaping.

SMOK TFV12 Review: Final Thoughts

Highly anticipated and justifiably so, the Smok TFV12 is truly the Cloud Beast King! Like the SMOK TFV 8, this tank is built for one thing and one thing only: INSANE PERFORMANCE.

If you’re a big cloud chaser and like your flavours to really pop there really is no excuse not to get this tank. It’s well priced, insanely powerful and it comes with three excellent coils.

I’ve said it before, but I will say it again: no other manufacturer is putting anyway near as much effort into its tanks as SMOK. The SMOK TFV 8 was a revelation. It blew me away. As did the SMOK TFV 8 Baby Beast.

The SMOK TFV12 takes what made these tanks exceptional, adds in some new features and pushes the performance even further. I honestly cannot say enough good things about this BEAST of a tank.

The only downside to this tank – and any high wattage performance tank, in general – is that it will drink your E Juice incredibly fast. But this is kind of a given. Like a 4 litre car, this tank is all about performance, not economy.

But if you want massive clouds and excellent flavour, you needn’t look anywhere else. The SMOK TFV12 is where it’s at.
